winding noise in 4 low locked
I recently bought an 06 h3 with 30k miles
i was wondering if somthing could be wrong with my 4 low because it seems extremely loud, all i can hear is a high pitched winding noise.. but in all other gears it seems fine.
is this normal??
and also if something could be wrong would it still be covered under the gm factory warranty?

I think your Hummer is fine, but it should be covered under a warranty. Might need to take it to the doctor. But Hummer Bob will prob. chime in with better details. He seems to have a great deal of knowledge on the Hummers

Its probably fine. My H3 also whines, but only in 4 Low Lock- has since I got it. I just assumed it is due to the insane amounts of gear reduction goin' on- that or the gears are straight cut. A quick call to the dealer should confirm this.

RE: winding noise in 4 low locked
The whining sound is normal because of the gearing. It's also noticeable when I have my 5 speed in reverse. WRT Traction control, that will probably only be noticeable on glare ice. With T/C off, the wheels can lose traction and start spinning. With T/C on, the ABS will pulse in an effort to stop the spin. The throttle might also be tweaked when it's active. I'm not sure how necessary it is with 4WD, but on my previous three cars (two Bonnevilles and a GTO), the effect was pretty dramatic. Not as good as 4WD, but a heck of a lot better than nothing (though the GTO was pretty helpless in the snow, regardless)

Gears whine, perfectly normal.
dh, did you get an owners manual with your truck??? Read it, Know it, Live it!!!
To turn off StabiliTrack and Traction Controlyou have to press and hold the TCS button for 5 seconds +. You can turn off TC alone by a press ofthe button and release. Default is on, so everytime you turn the ignition off,TC/StabiliTrack will be back on when started.
When you place the T Case in Low Lock, StabiliTrack is automatically disabled.
