Will my H1 roof rack support the weight of 4 wheels?
I just bought a used 1995 H1 4-door Wagon that has a roof rack on it. I'm driving it cross country to get it home and was considering sleeping in the H1 to save money, but there are four spare rims/tires that come with it and I was wondering if for convenience I could throw them on the roof rack or if that would be too much weight? They will fit in the back I think okay but then I would need to roll them out each night, so I was just curious...
Thanks!

So, uh, you pitch a tent while sleeping on the truck? I don't wanna know...

Ha ha pitch a tent! Who makes the rack? Anyway, if you are not jumping the thing I think you could put a mobile home on it for the journey! I can't tell you how much we overloaded H1s in the military. They took it without a blink...

That looks like one of Joe Toth's old racks. He made the original OEM racks. They aren't supported as well as some of the later racks that have the "legs" that wrap up the roof line. Rule of thumb is 300#s but lots of people have far exceeded that. I would carefully place them on the rack and secure them well so they don't slide around. Your 16.5" wheel/tire/runflat combo weighs in at around 165# each. I used to sleep in the back of my old 97 wagon on hunting and fishing trips. Just have to pull the cargo divider out and you have plenty of room.
