I understand now. All new vehicles are partially assembled kits. It is up to you and the dealer
To debug and finish the assembly.
actually that is not true. Every car dealership I have worked for has a prep tech department. All vehicles trailered to the dealership goes to teh pret department and they have a checklist. ( I started as a prep tech at the mercedes/porsche dealer. The checklist was huge...had to check every panel for paint defects and body straightness. Had to check underside of car for loose bolts/wires/ stuff like that. Had to check tire pressures fill all fluids and add any dealer add ons for that vehicle..side bars,rims,tires...the optional stuff. If a customer wanted a boxter with aftermarket stereo we did that too. The GM dealer I was at had the same deal but not as extensive.

Every car is FULLY built by the plant...dealers and prep techs just go over it and add teh optional stuff to it.

They don't all do their job when I picked up my H3 it still had the stickey film cover on the carpets, in large letters on it was the statement to be removed by dealer only.

I had a Ford that was built over the Christmas holidays. I found an empty whiskey bottle in the spare tire well. So **** does get missed.

at the mercedes dealership they used to leave the paperwork in the car, so on an ordered car we could see the customers name that was getting it. One day the dude working the lift next to me pulled in a car and was doing the normal routine when he read the paperwork and got real pissed. Turns out the buyer of the car was a guy that had totalled his last mercedes when he ran a stop sign and hit the mechanics truck. Let's just say that the windshield washer fluid resivior was filled with a yellow fluid that had a bad odor...lol.

I took my door panels off over the weekend and found that only one of the5or 6friction clips had found its way in to proper hole in the door. The other 4-5 were bent over. This should have been obvious when the panel was installed.

I worked in the Make Ready department at a Ford dealership and would do PDIs on occasion when we got a lot of vehicles in at the same time. I could do a PDI and a state safety inspection in about 10 min (60 + a day). You'd catch major issues, but that’s about it.

I've had 13 service visits to the dealer in 27 months, and am now out of warranty. That being said, my off-roading days are probably suspsended temporarily until we get a second car.

I might be sending my ride to Sewell Hummer in Texas.....so it will be fixed right the first time! Maybe all of us with major issues should do that......! They seem really nice down there, and they have the best technicians in the US working there.....

going on 8 months and 10,000 miles, no major issues here either. Just had some condensation in the drivers headlight once and a cracked pillar. Both replaced, no problem. Wife's 08 has yet to see the dealership since it left, of course she has had it for 8 months also and only has 1400 miles on it
We had an 06 for a year and only had cracked pillars on it, again, replaced no problem.

Good luck with yours.
