YEs, because they were stupid and still are stupid. Why can you not buy a tahoe or avalanche or equinox with a diesel for that matter.
In Europe you can buy just about any SUV with a diesel. and diesels do so much justice to a SUV. Gobs of torque at low rpm for pulling. Lot better mileage etc.

I do not get it either. Must be america's aversion against diesels.
It will change though. However not for the hummer anymore

I have been looking at conversions like Pradetor,Mash Motors & tenka toys. They all want between $30-40.000. I still have GMPP extended Warranty (25,000 miles & about 2 more years) are there any other conversion specialists

I've been drooling over the duramax/allison conversion. 800hp and an ungodly amount of torque. $40,000 though and my H2 is not worth half that anymore.

The reason GM did not put a Duramax diesel in the H2 is because the torque of that diesel will twist the frame. You need a stiffer frame than what the H2, Tahoe, Suburban can handle. They have to brace the 3/4 ton pickups to handle the torque too.

What in the world would give you that idea? The H2 is a beefier frame than the Tahoe and Suburban and those vehicles handle the duramax mods just fine.

I agree with Pauldy, I don't think the "frame" had anything to do with that poor decision. I think it was all about the almighty dollar. The Allison/Duramax combo would have raised the price of the H2 which was already suffering from lukewarm sales. If you look at the track record of hummer, they kept getting less expensive from the H1-H3. I'm sure the H4 would have looked like a jeep liberty and the 5 may have been a smart car.

An engineer/friend at GM told me the first time they put a Duramax into the 1/2 ton pickup as a prototype with the hydroformed frame they twisted the frame. They couldn't use it in half ton pickups and had to brace the frame in the 3/4 ton because if you tried pulling a
fifth wheel with the 3/4 ton unbraced frame you would twist it too. The tahoe, suburban, Yukon all are built on 1/2 ton frames. The H2 Hummer is a braced half ton frame.

I don't make this up I just tell you what I was told by my friend who happens to work at the the GM proving grounds in Milford Michigan. I'm sure there is more to it as well with economics and politics of putting competitors stuff into a GM since Allison and Duramax are not GM made parts. I think Isuzu makes the Duramax for GM.

Ok, but isnt it true that the H2 is a hybrid of trucks
The frame and body in the front is from a Chevy 1500, the center is 100% pure Hummer, and the rear is a Chevy 3500?

I might be wrong, just taking it off my memory (which could be cloudy since my age and it was 6 months ago)
