Why to change air filter and exhaust in H2?
Sorry, but after only 5 views in the Sub-Forums : Drivetrain Area, I decided to post my request here, too...
Not only in this Forum, but often I read and I listen a lot of people recommended to optimize/boost H2's performance to replace the original air filter and original exhaust. Why this? What are the real reasons, aside from the fun of customizing your vehicle? Why a Home prepared and famous like GM should not include in their H2 these components already to their full optimization?
Thanks for the answers

An engine is an air pump, more air in and out equals more power. GM is constrainded by emissions and noise laws so that leaves more power on the table for the aftermarket to address. Besides new exhaust sounds cool. I love my Borla.

I don't know about the 2003 H2, but the 2005 owners manual says to change the filter every 100,000 miles. Every other oil change would seem excessive, IMO. That is, unless you are changing your oil every 50,000 miles.

Changing the air filter @ 65K is a reasonable thing to do. But changing it every other oil change (guesstimating every 12-15k) seems excessive when you can get a lot more miles out of it. Granted, you are not hurting anything to be that attentive to the needs of your Hummer. If your pocketbook does not mind the expense, then go for it.

@ $100 for a air filter, that is very exsessive to be changing every other oil change.
would be better to skip a few replacements and buy a cold air intake and get a reusable filter.
i have the K&N CIA 77 series.. paid like $300 for it off ebay. the filter is reusable, and covered for like 1 million miles.. just need to clean it every now and then and oil it it.
i actually just pulled it out for the first time since installing it about 9 months and about 12k miles ago and just used my compressor to air out any debris and dirt in there.. it was actually fairly clean, so i didnt oil it.
make no mistake, the air filters for the hummer are not cheap. i sure you can pick it up cheaper than $100 from a auto parts store tho.
