You can drop the attitude.... you're not talking to a bunch of 16 year old kids trying to see if we can fit a fake nitrous purge on our beater....

Why would you wish a roll over on a Decorated Combat Veteran?

Jimmy is right... spacers caused Jeremy's rear wheel to pass him at 65mph going down the freeway.... and his insurance didn't pick up that check.

Lifts are not illegal, spacers are. PERIOD.

Sorry didn't know that spacers are illegal in the States....!?!

Last spacers I bought for my MAserati QP...came from US and were approved! How that?

And I tell you if you have an accident and your insurance will know that you have a lift kit....they are out! Not OEM specification. I'm pretty sure also in US! Same with tires who obstruct the vehicle....

I didn't bring up any bad attitude...but maybe you do not understand your own language?
I wrote "asume" and not "wish"...this is a big differnce!

I just cannot stand people blaming their own incompetenz (not you, they guy with the spacer incident) on for example spacers. There are other negative effects of spacers but they are exactly the same if as you use rims with lower offset...
Sure if I loose a wheel and I have spacers the insurance will blame it on the spacer...they are out and safe money!
Same they can do if you use rims differnt to original specification.
Same they can do if you use 35" tires and the manufacturer states 33" as the most!
....the list is endless!
Fact is, if you change anything you should look for yourself to get a high quality product and in any case you take over responsibility...

Would a 17" or 18" wheel with simular spacing to stock specs clear the knockles?

I've never had any issues using spacers. I'm not getting into the argument about the wheel coming off, I don't know all the facts. Just retorque ALL spacer lugs every 3,000 miles, and after any off road trips. It's suggested (Rancho and TC install manuals) to do the same with all bolts on the lift as well...PMCS.

No, a 17" or 18" will not clear the steering knuckle & upper control arm with a factory back spacing (5.75"). The Rancho lift kit requires a 4.5" or less back spacing on 16", 17", and 18" wheels. However you can get away with a 5" back spacing on a 20" and up wheels.

Muddy, correct me if I am wrong but wasn't JRuss using a 1/4" cast wheel spacer? I am just going from what I read and saw posted on another forum but I am sure you have seen his H3 plenty of times in person.

If I was going to run a spacer it would have to be a quality bolt on billet alumium hub centric to wheel centric spacer. Something like what Spidertrax offers

Toyota Hub Centric Wheel Spacer Kit

Spidertrax doesn't offer anything for our application but there is a company in NV that does quality custom wheel spacers / adapters. They are 100% made in the USA from 100% USA made materials.

Wheel Adapters, Wheel Spacers, Hub Rings, and much more! | Motorsport Technology
I actually contacted them about making me a custom 1.5" hub centric to wheel centric wheel spacer for the same reason (to use the factory wheels with the Rancho lift kit). IIRC the quote was around $300 for a set of 4 spacers.

What do you mean by approved?

^This is always good advice.

Legal and insurance aspects aside, spacers have always made me very nervous.

In general, fasteners are the weak link in a mechanical joint. When you install “bolt-on” spacers, you have just added 6 more, potential, modes of failure per wheel.

If you REALLY want to run spacers, I would replace your lug-studs with extended studs and use a slip on spacer between the hub and the wheel.

That said, I would just get new wheels that don’t require spacers so you can avoid the whole headache!

Another option out there for bead locks is having a set of HMMWV / Hummer H1 bead locks recentered
Welcome to Stazworks Extreme Offroad Hummer Page!
Its a cheaper alternative to most beadlocks but the problem is limited tire selection (16.5").
