What's safer when jacking questions?
So, I'm wondering about a few things and hoping to receive some input.
* is it safer to lift the H3 on to jack stands at all four corners or just the front with disconnected front drive shaft?
I'd like to test the front end some more for the noise problem I've been having.

* is it safe to run the engine and have jacked at four corners?
* with front d/s removed will front wheels spin independent or tied?
* is there a way to leave front d/s in and still test front end?
Thanks for help.
Thought I'd double check here b4 doing something bone headed lol.

b4 doing something bone headed lol.
if you're asking very basic questions here,,,
its ALWAYS dangerous to have a veh off the ground, even one wheel for a flat. do all 4 an stands and i wont want to be in the same town.
i would NEVER use 4 stands period.
i like big blocks of oak,no slip, no crumble.
the off road guys will talk of wheel spin dangers, busted parts, they know.
if it should ever come off the stands while running,,,?

Take it to some local shop and explain what you want to do. See if they will help you out. I'm sure they would have a lift which would be a lot safer than whatever you described. Safety first bro.

Taking the H3 in every time for some silly little thing.....
I was looking for specific tips in direct regards to the H3 drive train configuration.
I'll go ahead with the investigation of the front end anyways.

I just checked my rig this am for a rotational noise. Jacked up the front (center behind the oil pan on the shield at the cross member), put Craftsman 3ton jack stands under the cross bar of the lower control arms, and jacked up the rear with a craftsman 3ton floor jack under center of rear end. Pulled the abs fuses and drove it upto 60mph.. Steady as can be, and I found the noise..

Thanks hummerz....
I also jacked up Happy just a few minutes ago and checked all of the wheels for rational movement.
Some observations:
1) with bar under front wheels checked for play couldn't find any
2) with transmission shifted into drive tires move at both back and passenger front
3) with Happy in 4 hi lock same 3 wheels spun
4) with Happy in 4 lo lock all 4 spin but drivers side seems slower than passengers
Note... I'm am guessing due to open differential?
More observations. ...:
1) when spinning back wheels free hand they rotate freely but have some drag and a squeaky kind almost like rusty door hinge sound on both sides.
2) the front passenger side has a lot of rusty door hinge sound wheel spin and not as easy to turn
3) drivers side rotates easier but same rusty hinge rotational sound.
4) everything is nice and snug/tight where it should be.
So some questions?
* I accidentally forgot to apply the brakes and got a grinding sound from transmission when shifting drive to reverse/park... will this hurt the drive train from this happening one time? was on the jacks at the time...
* I was nervous about increasing the speed any further than idle. ...
* when I drive I've been noticing a rotational sound and didn't put 2 & 2 together till hearing the noise today
* also noticed that my stability track little squiggly idiot light was flashing in 4 hi & lo lock when on the jacks. Does the abs cause this?
* when back on solid Terra the truck did not flash and all gears work fine without noise
So what to check or do next?
Am I looking at brake or abs issue?

How do the rotors (noise if rusted) and caliper/pad slides look? It appears to be a brake drag. I recently replaced all 4 rotors and pads, I had a difficult time compressing 2 of the 4 RF caliper pistons, and the the RR piston was not smooth during compression, so I will be replacing all 4 calipers soon.
BTW, when driving with wheels off the ground, pull the 29 & 52 fuse, to disable abs, tcs, & esc.
