what year H3 to buy
gentleman this is my first post in here , so i will introduce myself first , my name is Eric i am 31 years old from LA.
HUMMER H1 pilot since 2005.
currently i own 3 beautiful H1s
i wanna replace my diesel range rover with H3 that will be used for adventures almost every weekend , , one may ask why don't i use my H1s for that, well the answer will be i do, in fact we plan on global travel with 2 H1s next year. but for now we need H3 to drive on the freeway 75 mph with no problem . wanna stick with hummer brand , and be more comfortable
.
no questions H1 is the ultimate 4x4, but H3 will be sweet change from my range rover
so your help will be appreciated on what model or year to get.
# 1 it must have lockers
# 2 automatic transmission
# 3 stronger front diffs
# 4 must be 5 cylinder
the rest doesn't mater i really dont understand whats the diferance betwin adventure ,or offroad package , but i want the best package for midium duty 4 wheeling
tnx again very much

Based on your criteria I would suggest an Adventure package equipped 2009/2010 H3. The come with front and rear lockers, upgrade front diff. Stiffer shocks and larger tires, which you will most likely be switching out anyways.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out...

Agreed, '09 or '10 Adventure based on the criteria, but I'd go one step farther and say '10 to get an extra year of factory warranty.
Adventure - the name of the package for I5 H3s.
Offroad - The name for V8 (Alpha) H3s.

I agree with the first two posts, I found this on craigslist here: just give an insight on what some of the H3s are going for:
2006 Hummer H3
2006 Hummer H3

i didnt not say we want the h3 for fuel economy did i?
fuel cost is not an issue in here even if any of my h1s goes 200 yard per gallon
we want a smaller hummer and that is the h3 and yet we want that excellent off road capability of the hummer.
h2 looks sweet but we think h3 is better and lighter and with fully offroad prepared like my diesel range rover for overland travel it will be totally cool.
so late 08 and up is what i should look for? and with adventure package correct?
can i find out if it has adventure package based on vin# most of the owners dont know sh.t what it has so i have to do my own search on the truck they are selling
tnx very much

actually I didn't hear you, so I don't know if you said anything?
"I did not state"!

curious as to why it must have the 3.5/3.7 liter and not the v8?
I fully get the H3 as a play toy for weekend adventures, I was a jeep man for years and know how sometimes smaller is better, especially on trails, but I got used to my daily driver that was a caddy cts and it's luxury and the jeep got to feel like a tin can on wheels so I went to an H3.
I'm just curious of he five cylinder part and depending how extreme you're planning to get you may wish for the extra power. especially if you're planning on Avignon anything larger than 35s, the five bangers have th tallest size gear ratio made for our diffs and th v8 can only be upgraded to what's in the five, so don't look to have much torque on a five with anything bigger than a 35, unless you do custom front and rear ends, which if that's the case you might as well go a complete different route. even in 4 low it's not the best, nothing like what my tj had with the 4.0 liter. that thing when you kiked it into 4low with the front sways disconnected the entire body shifted to the right from torque.

I have owned a 3.5 and 3.7 and a 5.3. All three got about the same fuel mileage around town. The 5.3 is about 1 mpg less on the highway. The 3.5 and the 3.7 were Lux and the 5.3 is an Offroad version. Most don't need the extra horsepower but with the 5.3 is there if you need it. FYI
