Default What is "normal" on the Temperature Gauge?

I've owned a lot of vehicles in my time but this is the first one I have seen that runs with the temp gauge at 50% or above. Granted, I live in Florida but it's not hotter here than anywhere else in the summer, it just stays thay way most of the year. The temp gauge is not much better than your average idiot light but it's a step up. Someday I'll put in a set of Stewart Warner Gauges so I'll really know what the fluid temps are. Until then, what does everyone else's temp gauge run?

My 2007 H3 is the same way. It hovers between the halfway mark and the 3/4 mark. Kind of scary. I'm constantly checking the temp gauge which I've never had to do in any other car. I'm guessing it's normal

The Temperature guage is marked with a normal zone. The thermostat works to keep it there. Mine stays there regardless of the outside temperature. If it doesn't then you may have a problem

Mine hovers in the normal range between 1/2 and 3/4. It nearly hit the red once when doing some light offroading with a/c on in 110 degree desert heat. I shut the a/c off and it the engine temp dropped while I overheated with the windows down.

Has anyone checked to see if a lower thermostat is available for the I-5? That should help the engine run better too.

I remember reading in the manual that if the engine starts to overheat, it will automatically turn off the AC to help cool down. Thought that was kind of a nice feature to save the engine. Although if its hot enough to be overheating outside, I probably want my AC on.

Mine temp guage hovers halfway. It's stays that way during the day since Guam is hot and humid and the temperature ranging from 85-95 degrees.

I'm in FL too (north of Orlando)and it's been blazing hot lately. That said, I have 4200 miles on my 2007 H3 and once it warms up it really doesn't move much from its normal position of just below 50%. I haven't done much off-roading but this is the normal behavior for riding around town and on the highway. I'd get it checked if you're going as high as 3/4 in normal driving.

My factory gage does the same...1/2 to 3/4.....

My Scan Gage II however shows the actual coolant temp to be in the 190 to 210 range.

210 came at 16:00 hours, 97 degrees ambient temp, stuck on I-20 in a traffic jam.

At what temp should one start worrying?
