Default Warranty worth with Hummer being gone...

I recently got a call from GM/Hummer informing me about the extended warranty option for Hummer. They gave me the basic "its worth it, I wouldn't own car without one, a warranty is a must" speech. After looking at the coverage and cost, it seems like a decent deal. Now that Hummer is discontinued, I would guess that we will see inflation of cost for everything from service to parts.

Has anyone else purchased the extended warranty? Was it worth it, did they fix the problems you had or come back with the classic "thats not covered"?

I bought a car this week. I got quotes from $2300 to $3100 for a so called "bumper to bumper" warranty. Then I was reading and I thought Hummers (07-09 or later) get 5 yr 100K through GM. If I can get up to a 100k, i won't get an extended warranty.

also, i asked if i were to replace my tires w/ 35s and both companies said that will void the extended warranty. i'm not sure if that's true

I think the 5yr/100,000 warranty you heard about is the powertrain only. From my understanding, that does not include the other parts of the car. The 2300-3100 figure sounds about right (with what I heard). I think that their bumper to bumper coverage, is as it states, bumper to bumper or everything. The more I think about the future of being an owner, the more I think the warranty is worth it. My local Hummer dealer told me the minimum for any work is $150/hr. I think it will ay itself off.

waranty has nothing to do with hummer being gone. you'll still get the same coverage as you would if hummer was beating mercedes in sales.

I guess I was thinking about the cost if you didn't have a warranty AND add in the inflation cost if Hummer didn't exist.

Such as, Hummer is gone, you dont have a warranty (assuming you don't buy the extended) and then something happens to your rig. You can either go to the Hummer\GM dealer, which will be at minimum (atleast my quote here) $150/hr or go to a local place. Of course with a brand out of business, the cost at even local places increases because it is now a special fix. Atleast that is my understanding of any brand when they discontinue.

What ever current factory warranty you have left GM has to honor if they discontinue the the model(for me this is a good thing now I can go to my local GM dealer instead the 1hr drive to the Hummer dealer). What ever extended warranty you have will stay the same. Under federal rules GM has to make parts available for 10 years after they discontinue a model so replacement parts should(?) not be a problem

If you have the cash an extended warranty is a good idea. I paid $2500 for my warranty and used it for $6000 worth of repairs.
