Vibration from new exhaust ????
Hey everyone,
I was wondering if any of you guys who installed new dual exhaust systems have noticed any vibration since the install ?
I've been obsessing since I bought my H3 back in the begining of Nov '06, about a little vibration I notice when stopped or parked. Its not bad , but I didn't notice it on my test drive vehicle or my loaner H3.
I took the H3back into the shop 2 days afterI bought it , and they said its with in 10% of where the idles suppose to be, that its fine..it just needs to break in.
About a month later I had a shop install a Borla dual exhaust system (not the kit forthe H3 , but a custom job from the shop).
I had them check the vibration again when my vehicle was in for service again last week ( now with @ 3400 miles), andthey said everything tested fine (plus they checked the head and valves for me to make sure that wasn't the problem) , the only thing they could find to cause the vibration was the Borla exhaust I had installed .
They said they didn't anchor the exhaust to where hummer originally had them tie into , and that was the reason for the vibration. Its causing some kind of resonance to vibrate the H3 , because of where they anchored the exhaust to the body.It kinda makes sence to me... , ....they had me grab the exhaust , and it is the same vibration I feel in the H3's steering wheel at park and stop.I mentioned howI had the problem for a month beforeI had the Borla installed , but they said everything else checks out ok.(???)
I also had issues with only getting around 11-12 mpg (@ 240-250miles / tank) , and they said thats normal.(????)
I don't gun it at every light , but I dont P**sy foot it either , so maybe the problem is my driving habits ???
Just wanted to get input from some of the experts here..cough cough..Dennis..Importkiller..any other service tech..........................Thanks you'all.................Shawn

RE: Vibration from new exhaust ????
Hey Shawn...
This vibration you speak of is not uncommon with a Inline 5 cyclinder...The Colorado has the same issues and the TSB fix was to raise the Idle RPM to about 650, as it is factory set right now at 550...I had my PCM retuned and one of the things they did was raise the Idle to 650 for me and that nulled a lot of the vibration out...I also have a Cat-back exhaust and that rumbles a little too, which makes matters worse if you want to call it that...All in all it's soemthing inherent to this engine type.
