For U.S.A. people opinion (without useless polemics...)...
...which is the REAL reason because the Hummer is failure? In a country like the USA, where cars like Hummer could be just the symbol of the greatness of the U.S., fails precisely the Hummer? Why do you think?
p.s.
I repeat: without polemics by me. In these days, it should get my H2 6.2...

IMHO, the Hummer line became the whipping boy of the environmental movement and the media. The H2 is indeed large, ostentatious (especially if chrome laden), and fuel inefficient but no more so than any number of other vehicles on the road that seem to escape the derision given the Hummer.
I regularly find that people are amazed to find that my H3 gets about the gas mileage of a lot of other SUV's. Our Wrangler Unlimited is only about 1 MPG better and only a bit lighter, but is perceived as a cute little vehicle. Horsefeathers!! The other day someone at a gas station asked if it cost me $250 US to fill the tank. They were floored when I told them that it only held 23.5 gallons, like other SUVs in its size class.
People are intellectually lazy. And many in general believe what they are told without bothering to do any independent research.
A recent poll in the US found that only 40% could identify who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but over 95% knew who lives "in a pineapple under the sea". Sad, very sad.

Also keep in mind personal choice . whether or not the H2 was still built, not every one wanted one so the demand might not be there. Its like the corvette or new Camaro: to me they are nice to look at , but whether or not i had the cash to buy one, i dont want to own either!

Hummer Not A Bad Rap Anymore
Nowadays the Hummer doesn't represent the American gas guzzling image of ignorance. The Hummer is practical, well at least it is for me. In Buffalo it's hard to find a vehicle that can weather any storm, but the Hummer does exactly that. I got a lot of slack from my friends and coworkers when I bought mine in 06', but that was during an environmental conscious time. Al Gore is getting divorced so it turns out he doesn't know what he's talking about. Get out and drive your Hummer proud!

I think a lot of folks in the US got spooked by the huge run up in gas prices a couple summers ago. The bottom fell out of the SUV market as more and more people switched to more fuel efficient vehicles. The final nail in the Hummer coffin maybe was the mortgage meltdown and the economic downturn which tightened the credit market.
These days, I'm increasingly seeing tiny little "smart" cars (which look more like death contraptions on wheels to me) in the US, which I only used to see in Europe. I never thought I'd see that here. Times, they are a changing.

It is a matter of economics and greed. The Hummer line died because GM failed. In order to get bailed out any company has to give up some things or they will not get the funds to continue.
GM failed like many other car companies because now pay attention......you cannot build more vehicles then there are people to drive them......Economics eventually kicks in. I own a bunch of vehicles but that is beacuse I am fortunate enough to be able to buy them and I can pay for the gas that goes in them no matter how expensive it gets. Now I will honestly say that when prices went up I did not drive the vehicles that got 10 miles to the gallon as often as I did in the past....but I did not sell them either.
When I was growing up we were a house of 5 and we only owned one car. We did pretty well. In the late 80's to present everyone felt "entitled" and because the Jones's had 2 to 3 vehicles everyone else wnt out and the companies made it too easy for everyone to have more than 2 vehicles. I understand that nowadays most households have to have 2 vehicles in order for the parents to work.
That is enough from me....just my thoughts.

True. When I got my Hummer a lady at work told me "You're part of the problem....not the solution."....haha. The majority of my coworkers drive -Denalis, Tahoes, Expeditions....etc. She wouldve never said that to one of them.

The first thing non Hummer owners say to me is - "What is your gas mpg - like 2-3."
When you say 11-12mpg they respond with oh that's what my Suburban gets. The media really gave this vehicle a bad rap with false mpg ratings over the years.
I still say it's the vehicle people would love to own, but don't have the ***** to buy. Instead they are pressured into buying a sport mini van or a smart car with a push bar and 4x4 decal on it. Whenever I take someone for a ride in the H2 they are amazed at how nice it rides.
