Transmission service

Transmission service
I'm getting ready to do a 50,000 mile service on my '06. I'm changing the oil, differential fluid, and transfer case fluid. I thought I might have the dealer tackle the transmission. I made some calls to a couple of GM dealers and here's what they said. Dealer 1 said they would pump out the old fluid (98%) and replace it, cost- $169.00 Dealer 2 said they would do the same thing, $220.00 or do a service where they dropped the pan and drained the fluid and changed the filter, instead of pumping out the old fluid, for the same price. They said they didn't recommend changing the transmission filter unless the vehicle had high mileage, like over 120,000. I'm wondering if I should check some transmission shops or try and tackle this myself, and how much old fluid is actually going to be left in the truck if I just drop the pan or even get a hand pump that I can attach to the dipstick tube.

I did read read my manual there Sparky. It says to change the the transmission and transfer case fluid at 50,000 miles. (page 6-6) There is no mention of a "severe" driving schedule in mine. Maybe your manual is for another year model and something's different. Mine is an '06.

i say do it. my theory on the best way to "waste money" is on fluid changes!!. face it,people throw a lot of money around and away in a lot of ways. gambling,cable/dish tv. then pinching on or stretching oil changes is just crazy,(or cheap!)
btw air filters are on my list too, there cheap ins.
if your 06 needs tran fluid at 50 k why wouldnt my 2010 or an 07!!?? granted the'll live without,i bet they live longer with fresh stuff

I believe Olds is referring to the footnote referrenced beside the AT fluid service. I read it as saying to change the fluid if used heavily in city driving, towing etc. otherwise it isn't required. Look at the footnote on the next page (6-8).
You are correct about the T case fluid, it doesnt mention anything about the severe use, so I'm interpreting as it being regular service at 50K. Its footnote just says to look for kinks in the line.
