Default Transmission fluid in Radiator water

Hey Fellow Hummer Enthusiast,

Last night while I was driving home in my '05 H2 with only 125K mi on it. The transmission began to slip. When I got home and checked it out, I saw that transmission fluid was in the radiator bottle and all over the passenger side of the vehicle.

Has anyone experienced this same kind of Problem?
Your feedback will be Appreciated!

Mocart4u,

You lost the barrier that seperates the tranny oil and engine coolant in the radiator. You will need a new radiator. Then aftermarket tranny cooler to bypass the radiator so it doesn't happen again. You have tranny fluid all over passenger side because all the tranny fluid and water mixed so ther overflow hose got ride of the excess. Do not try to drive in the state it is in. Or you will lose your tranny if you haven't already.

Thank GOD I put in a brand new OEM radiator 1000 miles ago just to avoid this problem! I had 100K on mine.

Granted I'm a new H2 owner, but nothing I've read makes me equate OEM to quality. So I'm starting to think OEM is not the way to go for replacement parts. It was true for other cars I've owned though.

Maybe I should have said OEM setup....meaning NOT bypassing the internal transmission cooler.

Ya, I am pretty sure the radiator they put in was not OEM...but NAPA equivalent....so that it is covered for life. Which is cool. That is what I meant. : )

Thank You for your input Ryaleon. Yeah, Hopefully I haven't trashed the transmission. I will update after I replace the radiator and flush. I checked and there's not any water in the transmission but I will be replacing this fluid also, just in case.

Default Shifting out of Park

Well Ryaleon I got the H2 home a couple of weeks ago from the transmission shop. Yes I blew the transmission when the barrier broke in the radiator last month and had to have it rebuilt then it just began having a problem shifting the damn thing out of park. But I just found the solution to that problem tonight and hopefully will fix that tomorrow.

Shift out of Park issue has now been resolved. I took the shift boot off and found a broken wire to the shift solenoid. I soldered the broken wire back together and it works like a charm Its all back together again.

Hello ... Just for curiosity how ended the story .. Did you get to fix it . Any damage to the tranny
Did you switch to the aftermarket tranny oil cooler
As any vehicle brand some OEM parts are the way to go but many time the right aftermarket part wins

I did install the aftermarket cooler a few months ago as a preventive amd so glad I did . the tranny temp never went over 185 max in a very hot day in TN mountains
Very recommended MOD to anyone , cheap and easy to do

Hey H2miami, Yes unfortunately I had to have the tranny rebuilt. Then added the transmission cooler along with a solid aluminum radiator.

Transmission - $1,450
Secondary transmission cooler - $165
Solid Aluminum Radiator $240

WOW .. big chunk ...
I was lucky to get the Transcooler replaced before failure .
BTW make sure the tranny lines(metal) are well attached to the cooler hose
If compression fitting was used then no worries .. If attached with clams double and triple check those are tight
I got a line disconnected at night 600 miles away home ... NOT FUNNY at all
