So im getting a knocking noise from the trans, or that is where it seems like its coming from. The trans seems a little sluggish as well..

Any suggestions for repair? Do you think AAMCO or a trans place will be cheaper than a dealer? Also, any suggestions on a beefer trans? I mean i only have 56k miles on my 03 and it has been my baby ....

I doubt you will get a knocking noise from the trans. I would check the skid plate for loose bolts or maybe the trans mount. You could always go by a trans shop for a free road test and see what they say but if they say you need a major repair I would get a second opinion.

Have you had any major service done to the engine or trans? If its all virgin, usually something simple. Aftermarket additions? Sounds like a bolts loose. Rythmic knock or only when rolling over a bump? Rythmic knock... Ive experienced torque converter bolts that have loosened. Usually after a major trans overhaul. That is a long shot unless you have had major work done. Keep us informed.

This is one reason i love this board, because of the fast replys. I also hate this board as i read something and then BAM, weeks later i have the issue (the mad wiper issue and speedo problem!) LOL

It sounds more like a rub-tap kinda noise ... it goes like this rub rub rub rub rub rub-rub .... yup thats two rub-rubs i a quick row. When I hit the gas while idle you dont hear it but if you press the gas slowly you hear it go quicker and then you dont hear it anymore. When she comes back down from the high idle she starts her thing again. I was thinking it was odd myself to have a noise like that out of the tranny. But i assume since she was a bit sluggish that was it...

Funny thing, i dropped the kids off this am. Had the rub-tap when i left ... When i returned 1 hour later it went away ...

The big question is ... im moving to houston tx from maryland in 2 weeks for a job relo. I hope she will make it !

I would be much more concerned if it was a tap-rub-rub-rub-tap-tap-rub noise... JUST KIDDING.... Have it checked out. Will cost you much more if it breaks on you while in travel to MD!
