Default Traction Failed is back.....

So starting yesterday my traction failed message is back, nearly every time I start the vehicle. They replaced the encoder motor and it went away, so I'm kind of at a loss now. I don't think a new encoder motor would go bad in less than 4 months, maybe it just hid the problem for a bit, or who knows, maybe another one went bad.

I'm leaning towards the TCCM now, I'm sick of dealing with this, I can tell a difference in the way my truck drives in inclement weather my traction control off.

You and I have the same truck....don't know if that makes a diff or not, but I had the same problem about 6 months ago. The dealer replaced the switch assembly panel, and the problem never came back. Worth a try!

This was the first thing they did, they did some kind of update to either the BCM, or PCM, or TCCM, I can't remember, but it was some kind of firmware of software update. The only thing that fixed it, at least up until now, was an encoder motor. About the only thing that hasn't been replaced yet is the TCCM.

It's worse than ever now, not going away and is there every single time I start the truck.

Your bcm is probably going bad. Thats how it started for me. First the traction control then the left tail light stayed on and now the right. I took it all apart today and pulled the bcm. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I'm not going to let them reem me on the labor.

Well, it's a documented issue that has been ongoing for some time now, so even when my warranty goes kaput in about 500 miles they'll still work on the truck until the issue is resolved thankfully.

Default What should I replace first

I read through all of the posts and it seems that the problem with the traction control failure is caused by either the TCCM or actuator (aka encoder motor). I've tried to read the code for this issue, but none of the scanners seem to pick it up. Here is whats going on with my 2006 H3 Adventure (with rear locker) and I'm hoping someone can suggest which of the two parts I should replace.

1. About 95% of the time I get the "Traction Failed/Serv Stab Sys" message ONLY on a start and have no control over the 4WD. Every once in a while, everything works normally on start.

2. If I cycle through several ignition cycles, it clears the message and everything works fine (i.e. I can hear/feel the actuator engage the gears), but as soon as I start the truck again I get the message.

3. When it is working, I have cycled through all of the 4WD modes as suggested, but I still have the problem.

4. I have tested the 4WD switch on the dash and even swapped in a new one with no effect.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

When my truck was new I got the "failed traction Control" warning, at least three times.
Dealer claimed they needed to check wiring harness connectors at the T-case and the connector behind glove box. Plugs into CPU, I guess.
You have probably done all this anyway. Just wanted to throw in my two cents
Good luck

i had a "Traction Failed" message at one time that was caused by the speed sensor in the accelerator pedal. Perhaps you have already ruled that type of problem out but there can be other causes for the message. Perhaps I misunderstood your post though

Thanks for the replies. I have checked all my connections at the TCCM and cleaned them up on the T-case/actuator, but it didn't fix the problem.

As for the accelerator, from what I have read people usually get other DIC messages with the "traction failed" (i.e. "reduced power", "abs failed", etc) when that is the cause. I guess I shouldn't rule it out, though.

Appreciate the suggestions. Any other ideas? I hate paying over $100 for a diagnosis, but it looks like that is my only option.
