From what the manual says you should be able to http://www.gm.ca/media/owners/manual...nual_en_CA.pdf
starts on page 4-9 press once to turn off T/C DIC shows trac off, press & hold for 5secs to turn off both DIC shows stab off. But I've seen alot of posts on different forums that say you can't so I'm not sure on earlier years.

even when in 4low when all systems are supposed to be turned off which mine is telling me that they are when u nail it the traction icon will flash in the cluster and i can hear and fell the abs kicking on so how in the hell are u guys taking these trucks offroad i cant evenn make it up a small hill behind my house because the abs wont allow my tires to spin i hold it to the floor and the abs is just taking over and preventing my wheels to spin any ideas

You can shut off Stabilitrac but the traction control function always remains on. Maybe it's time to air down or find better tires for your driving conditions. The traction control works like magic with Duratracs so far on my non-adventure package truck for me.

NJTEX is exactly right. TC is always on.

Go slow & let the T/C work you'll be suprised how well it will climb up & over stuff.

This traction control issue has been discussed at length, but still perplexes me. In your situation though, if you're seriously to the point you need to drive around puddles when offroad with the T/C on, I think you probably just need to brush up a little on your skills. I'm not saying this to be critical. I just think if you practice a little you might enjoy your time offroad a little more. I really like the T/C offroad. It does its job, and does it well.
