Towing Question
So I have a I-5 H3X. I'm looking at buying a 20' boat. My dad is giving me alot of lip about me ganna ruin my transmission pulling it. The total weight is around 2,000-2,500 lbs. more than likely less. The towing capacity is said to be 4,500 lbs for the H3. I just want to here about everybody elses experience with towing. I don't wanna here I told u so from my dad

Add the weight of the boat, trailer and contents in the boat. #2000 sounds light for a 20' boat. Your tongue weight should be relative to your total weight around 10%-15%. If your total load was #5000, your tongue should be around #500. Check the max tongue weight of your vehicle, hitch, and drawbar, and go by the lowest. Make sure the trailer comes with brakes.

I have been towing a 3800 lb travel trailer for thousands of miles. The I5 gets hot going up hills but no ther issues. Treat your tranny and engine to synthetic oil and change when slightly off-color.
I always keep my rpms high by running in 3rd, never overdrive. It is still well below redline but higher than if the tranny shifted on its own.
I would like to add a tranny cooler but I'm too chicken to cut into the existing oil lines.
Here's a pic
