I have one shot to get it right. I want to get it right the first time. Aftermarket wheels and large off road tires are expensive. That said, as a Newbie, I need the advice of others to save money. This is about money, and I'm not sure what size to go with. I'd like to go big but not blingy, ghetto big ...

And my local truck shop's advice is all about selling me on the most expensive way, so asking here, because there's no money involved, makes the best sense.

Jumping in here and not wanting to be redundant....

I am definitely doing the torsion bar method....to level the front out. Using the stock wheels so I plan on going with the 285 (33's). How much difference would the 305's be? wider stance? any rubbing concerns at all?

Doing the alignment and most likely rancho 9000's up front to get some travel back, leaving the rear shocks stock for now.

Questions:

1) Stock shocks up front w/new stops or are the ranchos overkill or should I go new all around.

2) 285's or 305's?

Set up is more so for leveling and cleaning the look up v. off roading.

Obviously cost is a factor, but not a limiter.

Just got done doing the torsion lift (level) process.

1. I did 7 full turns, then backe it off 1/2 turn to get a good level with the rear spacing.
2. Showing 23.5" from wheel center to fender lip at all 4 locations.
3. I went with Rancho RS5000 Series Shocks after doing some research.

• Front: RS5376

• Rear: RS5308

 

Quick question... What size tires are 295-75R-16? Are they 34 inch tires?
I saw a pair on a toyota FJ the other day and liked the size and look of them. I was thinking about going with some 285-75R-16 and was wondering what the side by side comparison would be? New to the whole tire thing. I have been reading alot on here about tire sizes but may have missed a post about 295-75R-16's.

295/75/16 is about 33.4" tall with a section width of 11.6" and a section height of 8.7"

285/75/16 is 32.8" tall with a section width of 11.2" and section height about 8.2"

So there's about a half inch difference in height and almost a half inch difference in width.

Here's a simple calculator you can use to calculate metric sizes.

It all depends on the manufacturer of the specific tire. Check out the specs on the manufacturers website for the "actual" dimensions.

EX: not all 315/75R16s are the same height and width like the generic tire size calculators will lead you to believe. The heights can range from 34.2" to 34.9".

 

So the 295/75R16 will fit with no problem then a stock H3 16 inch rim and will not rub I assume. Thanks Guys.
