Check out this article Hummer suffering from gas-guzzler imagereleased today by MSNBC.
I have several friends that have Commanders, and also some that have the Grand Cherokee, they do not come close to 19mpg hwy??? One reason I went Hummer H3, ok, a small reason.
I think the 3 does better, what do you think?????

Yeah, I still get questions like that at gas stations "how many miles per gallon do you get? ten?" - when I say 15 they usually shut up and go back to their expeditions, tundras, sequias and what not [8D]
I think GM ought to build an H3 w/ a turbodiesel V6 or something - it needs torquey engines, not a high revving I-5...

"High gas prices and a trend away from large sport utility vehicles have hurt Hummer sales, which are down about 22 percent nationwide so far this year. Sales in November were down about 30 percent from November 2006."
i wonder if this could be used as a negotiating point at the dealership...

I was forced to drive my cousins' V8 Eddie Bower Explorer some years back (2000 perhaps). It was new then. It got 11 mpg of mixed city and highway,....and on a trip to L.A. and back (from Phoenix) it managed 13 mpg.
My 2006 H3 gets 14.85 mixed city/highway,...and gets 18 on a long highway trip. (managed almost 20 for most of one tank,..but that doesn't happen often and you have to drive 15mph slower than traffic to get that).
So in the end,..theH3 gets35%better mileage thana 2000 Explorerin city, and38% better mileageon the highway.
True the H2 averages 9 in mixed city highway.
2007 Explorer AWDgets........ 13/18 using the new EPAstandards.
2007 Hummer H3 4wd.....gets 14/18
2007 Dodge Durango 4wd gets 13/17
So it's right in there, if not in the lead.
Link to old v.s newer more realistic EPA mileage tests.

Finally the hybrid mileage is somewhat realistic. The Prius combined city/highway EPA estimate fell from a laughable 55 to a more realistic 46 mpg. Toyota had been legally forbiden from telling consumers what the Prius had really gotten for mileage. The same law that prevents companies from claiming their cars get better mileage than EPA numbers also unfortunatelyprevented them from stating it was lower.

Funny thing is, my old Jeep Cherokee with the trusty I-6 4.0 used to get 13mpg-14mpg constantly.... no matter what/where/when. Not to mention that it was loud and slow compared to the H3. I guess such is advancements in engine design.

I have a friend that had the 4.0 Jeep 4X4 and got 20 on the highway. Maybe it had tall gears, cause it was a turd power wise. And my favorite response to gas milage questions......"If you can afford a Hummer, you can afford the gas." I do that that because people have already made up their mind before they even ask the question.
