Default Which tires??

Just picked up my H2 today, but, I hate the ride and the sound the tires make going down the road. I bought it because it was the best one I found and the place I bought it from brought it in from NC and with no dest. fee and they gave me 4K over dealer trade in on my '08 HHR.

As far as I know, this has the stock tires, LT315/70R17 On/Off Road tires. I will try to attach a photo if I can. I knew the tires would not give a smooth ride.

I would like to get replacement tires and sell what I have on there right now, unless the place I go will give me a good trade in on them. So, just a few questions. FWIW, I live in the St. Louis, MO area.

#1. Where should I have the tires replaced? I don't just want to go anywhere to have this done, I want to go somewhere that will take the necessary care to do the replacements.

#2. The tires appear to be in awesome shape. What type of trade in value should I expect from a tire of this manner?

#3. Should I put nitrogen instead of air like the dealership did recently in my wife's Escalade?

Thank you.

The tires and wheels are not OEM. OEM would be 315/70R17 BFG A/Ts. Looks like you have 20" aftermarket rims and Nitto tires. They are LOUD and ride like poop. Someone will swap you even or even give you some cash also in trade for the OEM rims and tires.

Nitrogen is a farce.

Thanks for helping me understand. It was dark when I picked up the H2, (still is) and I was going by the original window sticker they gave me.

You are correct. We are out of town as we had to travel about 4 1/2 hours to pick up the H2, and I went outside, and I have XD Series 20" rims and Exterme Terrain Mud Grappler tires with the numbers 35x12.50R20LT.

I think I'd like to keep the rims, but swap the tires because they are WAY too loud. I'll go crazy hearing that all the time.

What do the above numbers translate to when I'm shopping tire websites?

Thanks again.

Damn! If the rims were black, I'd swap you my stockers (plus my cash) for those in a heartbeat!

No problem! Just remember 20" tires are not cheap, don't get sticker shock!

If you are keeping the XDs and want to stay with the same size but in a metric size A/T (All Terrain) tire look for:

325/60R20 = 35.5"x12.8"R20"
305/60R20 = 34.4"x12"R20"

You can also look for 35x12.50x20 in A/Ts but there are not a lot out there.

Yes, I know ablut the sticker shock....I already looked up the 315's!

My thing is I want quiet tires. These are way too loud for regular driving like I am going to be doing. I didn't buy an H2 for going mudding...so, I don't need the off road tires.

Thanks.

The best all around tire for you probably is the stock BFG AT's. I am not sure if they offer it in a 20 but they are quiet and ride very smooth. If you just wanted to put the stock wheels and tires on it you can usually find them on Craigslist very reasonable.

The BFG's are GREAT tires. They also wear like iron. I would recommend them no doubt! Or the Goodyear Duratracks.

Default What I've found so far

If you are trying to stay away from noise don't get the Toyo Open Country MT's either. The AT's are ok though. I bought my H2 with The Toyo MT's and the noise that comes off them is retarded. A tire change is in the near future for my H2. I also have 20's and here are some All terrain tires I've found that will work and are acceptable as far as noise.

Nitto terra grappler: 295/60/20 34.45" X 12.36"
325/60/20 35.12 x 12.91

BFG All Terrains: LT285/65R20/E 34.7" x 11.5"
LT325/60R20/E 35.5 X 13

Micky Thompson Baja ATZ: 35x12.5/20 34.5" x 12.5"

Pro Comp Xtream AT: 35x12.5/20 34.6" x 12.5"

General Grabber AT2: 35x12.5/20 34.8" x 12.5"

Toyo open country AT: 305/60/20 34.2" x 12.5"
325/60/20 35.2" x 13"

Super Swamper Vortrac: 35x12.5/20 35" x 12.5"

I know there are probably more options but this what I have so far. In my opinion the H2 would benefit from a tire on the shorter side. These trucks run ok in the upper RPM's but the low rpm torque is lacking at freeway cruise speeds. I know mine will downshift to maintain freeway speed if I hit any type of grade. So I'm considering one of the shorter options.

I have Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's(305/55/20- 33.4"-12.5") on my Dodge 2500 and love them, They make way less noise than the mud terrain's on the H2. They do however make a little more noise than the Nitto's and Toyo AT's that I have ran in the past. Since the wheels are the same I'm considering trying them on the H2 to see if I can live with the noise. My diesel is so obnoxious that the noise isn't a big deal. If anyone else knows of a relatively quiet tire consideration, please post it up.
