I have been trying to get a straight answer to this question here and from my dealer for three months now without success.

Does the Tactical tire cover fit a 33" tire?

Or can it be made to fit the 33" tire? If not, let me know and never mind the rest of this post.[/align][/align]I had inquired about a more subtle H3 tire cover than the one that came on my Alpha when I took delivery in October. Ken Sutton, my Hummer sales associate,had looked into it and had mentioned that one of his service techs had tried painting a cover just like mine with no luck and warned me not to try it myself (should never tell me something can't be done). [/align][/align]Well, after trying to remove the reflective lettering off my cover withless than perfect results, I decided to try and paint it myself using the plastic-friendly paint in the rattle cans from Home Depot. I used the hammer finish color for lack of anything that looked half decent. After prepping it and taping the vinyl off, I applied about four coats and let it dry for a couple of days then placed it back on the car.[/align][/align]Here's what it looks like now.[/align][/align][/align]Now, this is only temporary until I can find the cover I truly want. What I REALLY want is the Tactical cover. It is simple and subtle but I have not found anything like it on third-party vendor sites. My understanding is thatit only comes on the 32"tire but it might fit my 33" tire. I would really like to try this but I don't know anyone nearby with one. Is this somethingsomeone can try and let me know? MyHummer Service Manager, Barry, confirmed the price and emailed me, "Our price for this spare tire cover is $975.00
plus 6% sales tax."Mine goes for $90-$120on third-party vendor web sites.

So, can anyone help?

What I'd be curious to know is how much space is between the tire and the cover on a Tactical Edition. I seriously believe it should have enough room for the 33's, but who knows!

 

i would like something like that too. The price on the tactical cover is ridiculous.

 

I haven't taken mine completely off, but there are some foam inserts inside the tire cover that fit between the tire and the cover. I suspect that you could take them out to fit the cover over a larger tire. I think I read that someone had put 33's on their Tactical and the tire cover did fit. Can't remember who it was.

I just put new tires on mine, but I put on the same size as the originals. Yeah, yeah, I know. . . [braces self forincoming airborne fecal matter]

Like Frank said, it has 3 foam inserts stuck to outside rim of the cover. I imagine that if you take those out you should be able to put in the 33's. I haven't upgraded the tires yet myself so I can't really say for sure. Once the dang check that I've been waiting for gets here I will be able to tell you for sure. Thinking that it will depend on the tires that you have, how wide are they? That could be a factor also.

I can not believe the cover costs that much, daaammmmnnn. I keep mine off most of time, cuts out alot of the rear view with it on. Suppose it will be the same with a 33 tire by itself back there.

I would tell you that you could have mine, but I already promised it to Trey once I get my new tires. If he doesn't want it maybe we can work something out. And I wouldn't rape you like it sounds like GM is trying to do
