On my H2 2003 LUX, my sunroof will not close, unless I ‘help it slid shut. When I depress the button 'forward', the back raised up like it should, and goes down again. Then when I depress the button 'back', it opens fine, but when I go to close it, it will stop every few inches when it's closing.

This first starting happening last week when I heard weird 'click' when closing. Now I have to 'assist' it with my hand to help make it close. The sunroof motor is running, but bogs out if I don't assist it when closing.

Maybe the track or gear came off for the closing mechanism?

Any suggestions?

on my 05 H2 theres a clicking noise also as the glass slides forward, it seems to move on the slow side too but so far its closing with out any help, does everyones seem to open and close on the slow side also?

 

My 03 did the same thing the tracks are messed up in the sunroof cartridge the only way to fix it is to replace the cartridge assembly. I did this in about 8 hours with a buddy. It is a pain in the butt because you have to remove the headliner to get the assembly out. There is no way to fix the tracks since Hummer was nice enough to make it an enclosed assembly. My sunroof did the same thing. One day when I was opening it past the auto open spot I heard a loud pop. At the next stop when I went to shut it the thing was stuck. I noticed it was bound up on one side so I helped that side with my hand and it shut. After reading some older post I got the ladder out and investigated. The plastic clips in the track broke on the left side. I found some of the pieces. I havent fixed it. I dont feel like pulling the liner off etc.

Sounds like the exact same problem. I'll need to also get the ladder out and investigate, maybe I can pull the broken pieces out. I think taking the head liner out would be a nightmare.

And I don't really want to take it to the shop and be charged some ridiculous labor fee.

I am a shop manager and I would have charged about 10 hours in labor and considering I charge about $80 an hour it can get costly quick and not every shop would be willing to do because of the liability of the headliner because if it breaks that is an additions $600

 

Im thinkin if my roof ever fails, Im gonna close it up, and be done with it...lol

 

Got a quote from the Dealership, it came in around $2500. They said the sunroof frame and motor need to be replaced.

I think the motor is fine, I can still tilt the sunroof up, and open it, it just won't close without my assistance.

I guess I won't be opening my sunroof anymore.

 

The sunroof on my 05 closes slow, but it still closes..

This has been on craigslist for awhile, probably a good deal if you need a new sunroof.
