Starting problems
Hello, I have a 2002 Hummer H1 and at the and of the day i parked it and all was fine. two weeks later i went to start the truck and it turns over fine but it will not start. questions:
1) could it be the lift pump next to the fuel filter?
2) since the 2002 H1 has 2 tanks, does it have fuel pumps inside the tanks?
3) I opened the air bleeder to the fuel filter and cranked it. no fuel coming out of it.
4) how does the fuel get to the fuel filter, is it through the lift pump?
Please advise if anyone has any ideas. Thanks a lot

No i cannot hear anything. i checked it with a test light and it is getting power. i even tried to crank it and i still cannot hear anything. I went ahead and ordered it. it was $ 55.00 including shipping.
Thanks a lot for your advice

Did you check the fuel filter canister to see if it had diesel in it? If it is low or dry then the lift pump is dead. You can fill it will diesel and the truck will start and run. The injection pump will pull enough fuel to run fine.

Starting Problems
Hello, I just changed the lift pump on a 2002 H1 6.5 TD. I finally got fuel to the filter but the truck still won't start. i cracked open two injector lines and cranked the motor 5-6 times. no fuel coming out. Please advise if possible. Thank you very much.

You changed the lift pump and hooked up the electrical connections correctly I assume. Do you hear the pump clicking when you have the key turned on? If not start checking the electrical from ground to power source.

Second time thru these starting problems
I am in the shop as we speak with this same problem. Mine is a 2005 H2 w/141000 miles. Two years ago it would randomly not start, temp, time of day etc didn't seem to make a difference . If I would rattle the key or shake the steering column often it would start and it would be good til whenever.
The diagnostics always came back without a problem. The first time we did put in a new fuel pump that did not solve the problem then they said they changed the key tumbler/ ignition switch and I have not had a problem until this last week when it has acted up again twice- usually after sitting for a while. The shop foreman just told me it checked out without a problem.....my husband suggested again a new ignition switch be put in so that is what we are going to try.
I'm on the road a lot and don't want it to act up.... Hope this fixes the problem. I'll let you know.
