Why the white metal (SS???) horizontal bar at the top mount bolts. Lost me on that part, I've been with ya on the rest. The one inch tube looks cool, but how about one inch square aluminum tube up top??? for the rack, I like the weight atless than0.30#/ft. and you do not have to bend it unless that is the look you want. Just constructive harrassement.

I like it guys. I like the Rust-Oleum Hammered paint better Gunner, long dry time, really long, but after about 2 weeks that stuff is damn near like powder coat. IMO tougher than the Krylon. KUDOS on the project.

The horizontal is for some additional supports that are not pictured.

Here is the reason for the round tube:

The round matches the SMA, the future roof rack and tail light guards..........Square just didn't fit the overall aesthetic I was going for.

Trying to match the finish on the SMA as well...That is wy the hammered...Couldnt remember if it was Krylon or Rusto---

Need to hit their web pages and do a little research.

Here is a possible roof rack choice.......May still be too tall for the garage..But it is light wt and easily removable for storage.

well, here it is,all but paint,i added some material to the support so i dont need any down riggers,as you can see,my boy got on it,it moved 1/8 inch, which i was fully expecting, with 150 lbs on it,it moved 1/4 inch, but it is made w/ a 3 degree andgle,so 60+lbs levels it out almost,i just need to cut off those straps on the main bracket.this came out sweet,as soon as gunner gets with me on paint,it will be done, all in all i will have about 150 total in material and suppliesName: sparetirerack3007.jpg

i chose to go with no down riggers due to when i tried them, they wanted to push that strap into the door, and thats just bad news,so i added material where it would benefit it the most, and it only attaches with 2 hand nuts,i made a bracket that will slide over the top of the main bracket, and then put two nuts, just to hold it,and it works great
