Default Since I bought my 08 H3.....

I was just sitting here pondering all the work I've had to had done since I bought this thing in August with 48k miles. Will it ever end? Is this normal or did the previous owner just beat the crap out of my poor Hummer?

1. Belt tensioner pulley squeek- replaced
2. Rear Diff gasket leaking- replaced
3. New front and rear brake rotors
3. New Battery
4. Drivers side front CV joint - Repacked and new boot
5. Cylinder #2 misfire- New head and gasket
6. Ellusive P0442 code- Pending smoke test next week. Gascap replaced, still getting code.

Well I would start by justifying what you have had done... The belt tensioner and batter could be from the previous owner neglecting the H3, if it sat for a while that's what I would caulk it up too... Same thing w/ the brakes, not knowing what you have for tire wheel combo could be contributing as well as driving habits and street to highway ratio... I've got 56k on my 06 and I'm on my third set of fronts and second for rear, but it's from wheeling and primarily street driving, I'm not drivin it like I stole it, I'm getting fairly good gas mileage compared to others and I've got a boatload of extra weight on her... Same goes for the front cv boot... On number 4 front drivers side... The others could be various reasons but I don't want to say GM is innocent...

must have, i had an 07 for a year37k to 57k it never had any repairs. at 57 tires looked great, brakes were getting close to change time #1..i grabbed a 10 when there were 39 left new. i miss the 07 lux,,hot seats!.
my 10 at 16000,zero defects.
if the guy played in the mud it will start to rot earlier too.

Everything except for the last 2 seem somewhat normal. Batteries can go anytime. Alot of peoples tensioner pulleys squeek it seems, I am currently on that list. Gaskets can go bad, boots can go bad. I think that is more a product of increased tolerances in the manufactuering process. Brakes, its a heavy vehicle and maybe the previous owner wasn't easy on them. It would have been nice for the dealership to replace those before they sold it to you but that is a world that is nearly a memory for most of us.

A few months after I joined the forums I started realizing that I was focusing on some of the negatives more than necessary. A majority of the threads here are because people are having problems, which adds to the negative focus. I know when I read something out of the ordinary here my eyes and ears are perked a little more the next time I drive it.

I had a few issues when I bought mine with 37k on it. Accelerator pedal assembly, pinion seal, propeller shaft seal and another gasket or 2 but those were taken care of in the first 10k. Since then I have had 40k trouble free miles(knock on wood).

My 07 has 53100, original brakes (still a bit left), just replaced the battery last weekend (was dead on Sunday morning so an easy trip to the store for a replacement and I knew it was just a matter of time), and about 3 years ago my power steering cap disappeared and was replaced no charge by the only one stop at the dealer.

Obviously.... 07s are far superior to 08s.

I Have 70,500 on an 07. I do some off roading (about once a month). Prob about 60/40 Street/Highway. Truck is not lifted but i do large slightly larger that stock tires (295s). I have a couple of mods, namely a Volant Intake, Cat Back exhaust and PCM Tune. The only issue I have ever had is an elusive cylinder misfire code that nobody can seem to exactly pin down. It comes and goes about once a month but whenever I can get to the dealer before it clears that basically say they have no idea what it is. I don't know if it comes down to maintenance or build quality, but overall I'm happy with how it has gone over three years of ownership.

That is why I am glad to have my 08... The only thing that has happened to mine in 43,000 is rear wiper pump and hood grille louver separation...Runs like the champ that it is.
