Collectors Item?
Seems to me two things are a possibility. 1) The Hummer brand dies and the few years hummers were made (in H3 case, 5 yrs) will make hummers a collectors items and increase the value of these vehicles over time. or 2) A small automaker will pick up the brand and make a limited amount of Hummers each year for the niche market and sell them as an expensive, exautic vehicle, thus keeping the value's of previously made Hummers high. What do you think?

I guess there is a 3rd possibility.
Hummer essentially closes but the brand gets sold to someone else who makes poor quality cheap parodies of the Hummers we know and love. I fear that this is what might happen - it seems inconceivable that such a well known brand would not have value to someone, but I fear it might be worth most to someone who just wants to stick a badge and grill on a much inferior product that they can knock out cheaply someone else in the world.
I guess it could be argued that isn't so different to what GM did - bought the rights to a very large renowned military vehicle, and ended up with the much more practical H3, that isn't a million miles away from other SUVs (and I say that as a very happy H3 owner).
Putting hummer badges and grills on much cheaper vehicles would probably have some negative effect on the value of older classic vehicles (though less so with the H1) - only the initiated would know the difference between a GM Hummer and the newer poorer imitation.
On the other hand Landrover/Jaguar got sold to Tata in India and so far they've remained quality brand's still based on Britain - so there is hope!

I cant believe that the asking price to the Chinese company was only $150mm, that makes me so sad!
I don't think that AM General is the right buyer for Hummer. Just because they make H1's doesnt mean that they have any idea how to manage an actual brand. H1 isn't a brand, whereas H2 and H3 are.
