Default Roof rack key question

Hello everyone, Quick stupid question. Bought a used H2 and wondering how to move the roof rack back and forth. The roof rack seems to have a key inlet on each side of hte rail. Does this have to be unlocked to loosen the ***** or did someone just tighten the ***** very tight? Truck didnt come with that key and I tried the ignition key with a no go Thanks in advance!!!

Just loosen the *****. You don't need the key to slide the racks forward/backward. You ma need to tap the base a bit if it has not been moved for a while.

Just finished working on mine. You have to lift the rubber inlay, there are 2 torx screws that have to be loosened, then the *****. If you don't have the key, get the number off the lock cylinder ie: 005,006,007. you can order the key from your GM dealer.23 bucks in Canada.

I was in the same situation as far as not having a key. I took my truck back to the dealer and they ordered me one at no cost.

Excellent information and much appreciated!!! Since im on a roll, why not another stupid question. haha If you dont need the key to move the rails, why is the key there in the first place? Im thinking it is to remove the rails temporarily? I guess i will also find out when I get that key Thanks again and I will be ordering that key!!!

The key is used to remove the end caps from the rail. Once you do this there is a channel in the actual rail which will allow you to slide in additional inserts made by Hummer such as a bike rack or ski/snowboard rack insted of having to change out the entire rail. Hope this helps.
