Default Repairing Chrome Grille

Ok so i went into Wallmart the other day and came out and saw my Grille had a nice crack on the right side from side marker to signal lights has any one ever attempted to bondo the chrome before? Also i would like to repaint it matte black i know im not going to be able to sand through the Chrome but id like to scuff it up enough to repaint it so that rocks on the freeway wont chip away at the paint. Any one ever done anything like this or should i just be patient and buy a whole new grille?
