Removing running boards

Removing running boards
I have an event coming up that I'd like to remove the running boards for before heading out on to the trails. Does anyone know of a removal guide or can tell me what bolts I need to get to in order to remove the factory installed chrome running boards?

RE: Removing running boards
Funny...
I still haven't put mine back on since the last event I attended....
Simple but a pain to do.....two bolts hold the brackets to the frame, both front and rear.
I used jack stands and duct tape to support the steps while I undid the bolts. (no live helper available)
Once you have the steps off, I'd suggest putting the bolts back in the threaded holes so you don't lose them
as well as keeping the threads clean. Otherwise you might have to re-tap the threads...
30 minute job at most....The drivers side front is the one that I hated...Just hard to get to.

RE: Removing running boards
Hey HH,
The only bolt I had a problem with was the top/front/drivers side........
I'm not real patient when it comes to hard to reach bolts...Hence my PITA statement.
I bet one of those ratcheting box end wrenches would have worked....Did'nt have my universals at the time.
What did you use?

RE: Removing running boards
Thanks for the info. I'll hopefully be removing mine next weekend. I took a quick look and saw where the boards attach to the brackets, but figured there had to be a few bolts holding the brackets to the frame, and that is where I need to remove everything from.

RE: Removing running boards
If you are doing this by yourself ( as I do ) it's easiest if you remove the lower bolt from each bracket first leaving in both top bolts. Loosen the two remaining bolts and then remove only one of them. This allows you to rest one end of the running board on the ground so you dont have to hold it up while you remove the final bolt.Support the end of the board that is still attached with your hand while you remove the final bolt and you are good to go.
( Mine are obviously removed in the pic, check out my post "nerf bars and off roading dont mix" to see why you should remove them before going off road)
