Recommended H1 Tires
I'll soon be getting a 2002 H1 that comes equipped with Goodyear GS-A tires, with some good tread left. I would like to do some off-roading, but most of what I'll do is highway-about 70 miles/day.
I've considered replacing these when that time comes, but I've seen many very bad reviews on these tires.
What would those members with great H1 experience recommend for the parameters I'll be using???

The GSAs are good tires for the street and some have even said they did well in the sand. They do need to be rotated about every 3000 miles or they have a tendency to cup on you. I think that the best all around tire for the H1 is the KM2 by BFG. Balances well, is pretty quiet on the road, handles most offroad conditions very well, gets good tread life and looks really good. I would rate the Toyo Open Country and Goodyear Kevlar MTR as the next best H1 tires.

Thanks, 3Hummers!
I'll do some research on that. What do you think is a competitive price for these tires? Is there someone in N TX that you would recommend?
BTW, I have been reading many of your posts on these forums. You seem very experienced and knowledgable about the H1. I, and I'm sure others, appreciate your feedback!
Would you happen to know if there are any H1 enthusiasts/groups in the N TX, or for that matter, Central TX areas?

Hands down--BFG Baja TA's
BTW--the only reason 3HUMMER's seems so knowledgeable on the HUMMER scene is that he's owned 4 out of every 5 H1's ever made; he didn't have room for the 5th one or he would have owned it as well!

I have a set of steel wheels with the BFG Baja TAs on them. They are great tires. Nice tread pattern, strong sidewalls, don't lose chunks out of the lugs, nothing really negative to report about them...except that they only come in 16.5" to my knowledge and are hard to find in the civilian market. They are starting to be available and there was a vendor in the Dallas area that was advertising on Craig's List for new and nearly new TAs. I assume that you have 17" wheels in which case these would not work for you. If you happen to have a set of 16.5" wheels on your truck these would definitely be worth considering.
Haven't tire shopped in awhile but the KM2 and Kevlar MTRs are usually in the $400/tire range with the MTR being slightly cheaper. Not sure on the Toyo's. 4WheelParts has put together some of the best tires packages for me. I usually use Todd at their Temecula, CA store but have had good luck with their Dallas store also.
Stock tire size is 37 x 12.5 x 17 or if you have the 16.5" wheels it is 37 x 12.5 x 16.5.

I'm pretty sure the baja ta is being phased out. I was in s. carolina a few weeks back at the michelin plant in greenville (for a performance driving school). I was giving one of their instructors there **** for not making the michelin LTX A/T2 in my sizes and then questioned him about the bfg line (which is michelin) and he told me the bajas are not going to be made anymore.
