Rear Diff fluid leak

Rear Diff fluid leak
Hello all,
2005 Hummer 2 150000 miles. Last week it was 97 degrees here in NE Pa. and I noticed that fluid was leaking from my rear Differential. Looks like it was coming from the yoke, maybe a seal. I would check it after each short trip and it would leak a medium size spot then stop. I spoke to a mechanic friend who said it may be due to the excessive heat. This only happened on the one hottest day. I have driven it all this week with no signs of a leak. Could it be the heat thinning out the fluid too much at that time? I plan on having the seals replaced but want to see if it can wait. Any help is appreciated.

no problem. the pinion seal is not a difficult repair, and a $12. part. Right now just drain and refill the fluid make sure it is full and use a quality fluid. I recommend rp maxgear. Make sure to monitor the fluid level if it still leaks before you replace the seal. GL
