question on trans cooler mod
#32
I just completed this mod on my H2. I also replaced the radiator as insurance I used a 'liquid" thread sealer. My question is how do I know all of the air has been purged from the rad? I can see a steady stream of coolant running to the overflow tank. Is it safe to assume any trapped air will go into the tank and as long as the coolant level in the tank is good then all is good? There is no filler on top as with my other cars. I have noticed my normal coolant level has gone up a few degrees. I attribute this to the fact the trans cooler is much larger than the OEM one was and its an all aluminum rad. Temp usually hovers around 205. Never quite reaches 210 mark on dash gauge. Trans gauge barely registers over 100. That's on an 80d day here in S Texas.

Trans cooler is mounted in front of the radiator and bypasses the radiator. It's larger so blocking more air flow than the OEM unit. At least that is my theory. There is space between AC condenser and trans cooler. When I said a little warmer I meant maybe five degrees based on my before and after observation on the dash gauge. I understand it is not accurate to one degree.

mine didn't run warmer with the bigger cooler mounted in front, ive wondered how to bleed air out of cooling system as well since I want to change coolant just for maintenance, ive always let my vehicles warm up with radiator cap off and watched the bubbles flow out of radiator etc but we have no cap on these, unless overflow tank will just do same thing

Right the radiator is much bigger however I haven't seen any change in coolant temp. I'm going to test it with the torque app for more accuracy,
Trans is running much cold. Before 190 now 150 max
no noticeable changes on AC
