Question on H3 electricity
I have a question on 2007 H3 electricity (after draining my battery TWICE in a month).
I have a radar detector, a rear camera, and a GPS that are connected all the time to my car. For now, I took them off cz I got tired coming back to see my H3 dead. But at the same time I do use all 3 of them on a daily basis and was wondering if there's a solution to that.
1- Why the cigarette lighter plugs do not turn off automatically when I turn off my car??? Is that something wrong with my car or the design itself?
2- How do others do it? I need a plug that turns off whenever I turn the ignition off so it doesn't suck my battery's life throughout the night.
thanks

68 posts garnaout? Looks like it's time to use the SEARCH function. It is located at the TOP of EVERY page of this forum, it is in RED. If you need instructions on how to use it they are in the FAQ area.
This topic was just covered in another very informative thread with solutions!

I believe the reason the lighters stay hot (no pun intended) all the time is becasue of peripheral charging. charging your phone, laptop, tablet, etc in your car is ultra common and has virtually no drain on your battery in the key off position becasue... they stop charging. the others you have listed are continual drawing units.

I wired my radar detector directly into the switched power on my rear view mirror. Yes you have to cut one end off and wire it in but I have no cord hanging down, it is up and out of the way and powers off/on via the key.
My other items, I simply turn off (ie GPS, CB,) via switch.

@happy hummer, tell me more about that 12v outlet?
@hildebrandhummer how hard was it to do that? how did u stabilize the detector up there? u are absolutely right, thinking about it now its not a bad design, phones do stop charging, my rear cam screen definitely won't
