Hi all, about 6 months ago, we ditched the factory stereo system (Non-Bose) and replaced the head unit with a Pioneer FH-P800BT and replaced front and rear speakers with MBQuarts.
Well, for Christmas, my wife wants more power and a sub. My question is this... the GMS-04 module allows the chimes and Onstar sounds through the drivers front speaker.

Since the speakers will now be driven by an external Amp, I'm assuming that I'll be loosing the Onstar output... could the fix for this be as simple as a separate speaker to use? or is there another way to not lose the Onstar output ?

Sorry, I meant to type GMOS-01, not the 04.

 

For anyones future knowledge, I contacted Metra Tech support for a second opinion other than my local stereo shop.. In this case, I'm glad I did. The local shop said no problem it would still work once an external amp was installed.

Metra tech support said different. Once an external amp powers the door speakers, the Onstar output and door chimes will no longer work.

They suggested an external speaker get connected to it. But specifically stated it needed to be 4ohms and very efficient since the Metra GMOS-01 has a very small output. Otherwise, it would barely be heard. They suggested their part number SP-2003 or equivalent.
