Default PCM tune question

From what I've read on other threads, if I get a new PCM from pcmforless, I need to have a security relearn done and a case relearn done. Is the dealer the only place that can do this? I know if I call them and ask to have this done they won't do it and I'll be stuck. Has anyone had this done at other places than the dealer? How did you explain it to them?

You only need the CASE relearn if you replace the PCM. Anybody with a SCAN II tool should be able to do it.

The security relearn is only needed if you are doing a loaner. They will send you the instructions on how to do it. No tools required. Just a serious of key turns.

Yeah, I was going to replace the PCM instead of sending it out, getting it programmed then sending the loaner back.

I just got done with mine and its certainly worth it. No more response delay and a nice gain though I also have the K&N and a Magnaflow exhaust. The changes continue.

Is there a reason to do it one way versus the other? I figured by getting a new one it would be one less time that I'd have to switch it out whereas with the loaner I'd have to take it out twice instead of once. Unless I'm missing something, which is always a possibility.

No I do not think you are missing anything. However, it takes less than 10 minutes to swap out the PCM and you will not even get your fingers dirty.

Most everybody I can think of that have done the PCM tune have went the loaner route, but that does not mean it is right for you.
If you get a new/replacement PCM it will take more of your time, .....swap it out...... then go get a CASE relearn done.

It really is a matter of personal decision, no wrong way to go about it, just do it, you will be glad you did.

If I can skip a relearn, that might be the easier way. I had no idea how long it would take to swap it out, but knowing it's that easy puts me at ease. I'lldo thatonce I get your CAI so I'll have that and my Magnaflow done so the tune will work much better. Thanks!
