Onstar removal

Onstar removal
I have recently purchased a H2 with Onstar fitted. As I am in the middle East I would like to remove it from the dash. Has anyone done the same and if so are there any issues with just unplugging it and taking it out?

I had this mental image of Onstar saying, "Onstar has detected a rocket propelled grenade launched in your direction. Do you wish to call for assistance?"

If you don't have anything to put in after removal of your onstar, buy a Bluestar. It allows you to use the onstar mic. and buttons for a bluetooth for your cellphone. installed one on my 2004 H2 and it works well.

Glad to hear that. Keep safe.
I can't remember where I read it, but I do recall from somewhere the Onstar electronics are located right above the glove box with the antenna fed up to the door pillar. I could not find the info again. That's why I was reluctant to say with certainty that's where it's at. But if you want to kill a half hour you may want to remove the glove box and see if it is there.
On the other hand, you could simply remove the fuse that powers it or unplug its power cable and leave it where it's at. Remove the Onstar control panel and replace it with a single DIN gizmo of your choice.
Good luck.
[Edit]
And here is a good reason why a person would want to remove Onstar. From the article:
"Would it surprise you to find out that the FBI might be able to monitor private conversations in your car? A recent court case revealed that the FBI used the popular OnStar system to do just that."
