One reason I bought a Hummer
A soon to be sold in US import car fails the crash test.
I think they are just trying to hard to keep the price down and this is what happens. I'll spend more on a vehicle and gas for the safety of my family and myself.

RE: One reason I bought a Hummer
Ironic you post this Chris:
I accidentally ran across H3 crash test video on YouTube on Friday. Watch this:
Front: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g1tR0Y8vzU
Side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zomLUJngzY0
I have read numerous crash test reports on the H3 which only gave it moderate ratings. This was a factor in our purchase believe it or not. Well, how cananybody say this is not a 5 star rating? I have seen magazines, etc that say it's not very good. Do you see any visible damage in the cabin? I sure don't.I originally posted wrong info on this but went back and saw that the NHTSA put a 5-star rating on front and 4-star on the side. I could have sworn that when we first bought our H3, it was 3 and 3. I wonder if anything changed.
And maybe instead of worrying so much about fuel dependancy, they should focus more on safety. People often get critisized (especially us Hummer owners) about gas dependancy, well, I agree with you Chris, I will always take safety over gas prices. You can NOT put aprice on your life or your family's.
Here's an idea for the government and auto makers; how about you raise the safety standards, and stop making people drive around the block for their licenses in the big cities, ie: Chicago, and give people a REAL driving tests, and not give licenses to morons that CAN'T READ THE SIGNS or speakEnglish! How about you make insurance CHEAP for good drivers and expensive for BAD drivers, and not raise the rates of the good people every 6 months because of "rising insurance costs" due to people who drive like morons. How about doubling and tripling their rates and lowering ours? WOW, that's rocket science for ya huh?
Here's another one for ya; if you do all the things listed above, people like my wife and I that have been hit by drunks and idiots out there that can't drive won't be afraid to have a normal size car. Oh wait, that will never happen, because the state makes money on every car on the road with plate renewals, the federal government makes money on gas tax, and local municipalities make money on pulling over innocent people going 5 MPH over the speed limit but not pulling over the people zooming by me going 20 or 30, running the yellow light, while I stop and a squad car in the lane next to me just watches and does nothing.
Well guess what? Until these problems are fixed (which is never) I'll keep buying big gas guzzling SUV's to keep me and the ones I love safe.
YES THESE ARE MY OPINIONS AND I WON'T GET MAD IF YOU DISAGREE, so don't be afraid. Hopefully Shorty won't come on here and yell at me or something
