oil change and on star
hi
I got my on star report and it informs me I need an oil change.
Quick question so to keep the on stat oil expectancy life current and accurate info , do I have to get the oil changed at dealer...
I did it there there the first two times but its a hassle to go just for that...?
Can it be done at a regular mechanic.?

RE: oil change and on star
I do it myself. Takes about 10 mins longer than most vehicles because the skid plates have to be dropped and reinstalled, and then ya got to wipe up where it drains on the cross rail and on that rediculous filter cup with a spout thing.
Any oil change place could do it, but make sure the kids tighten the skid plate bolts properly when they are done.

Even the quicky oil change places can note the oil change in the vehicle records. I usually go to the dealer just to keep my face in front of the service and sales guys. Gets me invited to the Hummer Happenings.

There's a good writeup for the H3 oil change here: https://www.hummerforums.com/m_72105/tm.htm
Be sure to reset the oil life monitor as per the instructions in the owner's manual.
I haven't used the dealer for an oil change, opting for an oil change place that I trust. I reset the oil life monitor myself just to be sure that it's done.

I went to the dealer ONCE for an oil change, cause the truck was there getting fixed anyway....after getting raped for $70 for REGULAR OIL...I told them off, stole all the pens from the service dept counter and now do my own.

Yeah, and I don't need no stinking Onstar!
Most dealers are charging $65.00 - $70.00 for a change. I can buy reular oil and an AC filter for about $20.00. If I do the change and puts around with cleaning the skid plates a bit, have a beer, I'm done in 45 mins. or less. So I figure thats $1.00+a minute for my time, which I like.
