This is a letter i got and i tought i share it with you be happy what you have.
I been threw this and i still can not tell you how much it hurts.
My mother was almost 41 years old when she had me.
I was her baby i never thought she never would ever not know me[sm=smiley19.gif]

THIS IS WHAT LOVE IS ALL ABOUT!

It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 am. when an elderly gentleman
in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb.

He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I
took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an
hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his
watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would
evaluate his wound.
On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the
needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress
his wound.
While taking care of his wound, we began to engage in conversation. I
asked him if he had another doctor's appointment
this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no,
that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his
wife.

I then inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a
while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's
Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit
late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not
recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, "And you
still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?"
He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still
know who she is."
I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and
thought, "That is the kind of love I want in my life."
True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of
all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.
With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there are some
that come along that have an important message, and this is one of those
kind. Just had to share it with you all.
Oh, by the way, peace is seeing a sunset. The happiest people don't
necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of
everything they have.

 

Very touching Mark...I'm sorry for your Mother and the pain you and your family must of went through..Hopefully it makes us stronger in heart and soul.

 

I was able to buy my mothers house to keep her in her own home i took care of her for three years my a--hole brother decided to put her in a home here is what happen.

Assisted Living Nightmares
Our I-Team is exposing a state agency that is failing to protect the elderly. An I-Team investigation found assisted living centers all across the commonwealth that have been allowed to stay in business, despite patterns of poor care. Why is this happening? And could someone you know be in danger? I-Team reporter Joe Bergantino exposes why the state isn’t doing more to keep our senior citizens safe!

There are two faces to the world of assisted living. The one the industry would like you to see and the face Geraldine DiLorenzo.

Mark DiLorenzo: “If you look at the pictures, he had to hit her at least three times, two, three times, good punches.�

It happened here at Sunrise Assisted Living in Wayland. The attacker, another resident.

Mark DiLorenzo: “They told us when we enrolled her and bought the room that if anybody gets violent, they would remove them right away. And they weren’t doing that.�

State inspectors cited Sunrise of Wayland for withholding information about the attacker’s history of aggressive behavior, for not doing criminal background checks on workers, for hiring a convicted felon, and for multiple medication errors.

Now the I-Team has learned there are allegations that a staff member here sexually assaulted a woman in her nineties.

Sunrise of Wayland’s response? The company disagrees with the state’s finding that another resident struck Geraldine DiLorenzo and the facility says the sexual assault allegation is unfounded.

So are these isolated cases? Our I-Team investigation has uncovered a pattern of questionable care affecting the lives of thousands of seniors in Massachusetts. And we’ve learned the state agency that’s supposed to be protecting these residents is not doing its job.

The problem: only two state inspectors at the office of Elder Affairs for a growing number of assisted living facilities, now 178.

And current state regulations are weak.

Karen Love, Consumer Consortium on Assisted Living: “That leaves them ill equipped and really unprepared for egregious problems and complaints that come through the department.�

Another problem?

The state seems unwilling to follow through on punishing repeat offenders.

Examples:

At Gabriel House in Fall River, twice in 2002, not enough staff. In 2002 and 2003, unlicensed workers giving out medication.

At Davis Manor in Lancaster, last year and again this year, multiple medication errors and staff performing skilled nursing care in violation of state regulations.

At Sunrise of Wayland, the state has twice in the past two years noted serious concerns about the safety of residents.

The state twice threatened to suspend the certification of all three assisted living centers, but never did.

The state says all three facilities have corrected their problems and at this moment are in good standing.

Jennifer Davis Carey heads up the state’s Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

Joe Bergantino: “Can you say to people honestly that this agency can make sure that residents aren’t in danger?�

Jennifer Davis Carey, Exec. Office of Elder Affairs: “We use our authority as aggressively as we can.�

Joe Bergantino: “So right now you’re saying under current regulations, you don’t have the authority to address a situation where patients are actually in physical danger inside one of these facilities?�

Jennifer Davis Carey, Executive Office of Elder Affairs: “I can’t speak to the specific allegation that has been raised in an ongoing investigation, but our regulatory authority is limited.�

Part of the problem here, state regulations have not kept up with the changing needs of the increasingly older residents in assiste

 

Losing a parent has got to be one of the most difficult things that one will face. Fortunately, I still have both of my parent's. My Dad is 74 and my Mom is 67. Both are in good health which I am extremely blessed. Even at 41 years old, I don't know what I will do when the inevitable occurs. I have an extremely close family. I see them getting older and it pains me. That's a tough thing to deal with, in fact it's hard to right this and since I have to go see a patient now and I don't want to feel sad, so I will end here.

Good luck to you. My old man blew his brains out when he was 63. He hated life and did not know how to get through basic doors although he was financially successful. He is better off.

You just gotta move on.

 

Very touching post. I worked as a charge nurse in a 40 advanced Alheimer's unit. It was one of the most fulfilling, yet emotionally draining jobs of my life. I know there are alot of bad facilities out there and we were understaffed, as most places are. I worked with a really great group of people and we all cared deeply for our patients. We came in early and left late....we collected money to buy personal items for the patients who needed them , so they didn't get charged an arm and a leg from the facility who was run by a big corp. The rest of the staff on other floors thought we were all nuts. We danced with our patients....or sang songs.....stopped to brush their hair...hold their hand if they were scared by their confusion....Point them in the right direction if they were in the wrong room, but in a way that they didn't realize you just did that. It's an awful disease and I've seen it at it's worst. I've also seen the effects on the family, perhaps the most afflicted of all. They needed care almost as much....emotional support. I always made myself available to them, no matter how busy I was. I tried to empathize as much as possible and I couldn't even imagine their pain. This job was 15 yrs. ago and I still remember those patients by name....there smiles...there tears.

I'm so sorry for what your mother went through...nothing will ever make that right. This corp. that I worked for was all about the money....we just had a super group of people staffing it.. that was better than the corp. they worked for.

We did have violent patients and I did have the snot knocked out of me a couple times, but we never had any patient to patient violence occur..Thank God.

 

If these situations mentioned above are truely hitting a soft spot for people here, you should ALL see "The Notebook"

I love movies but I'm not into these kind of stories, but I must say, this was a VERY good movie and has to do with these situations. I won't give it away, but it's not a "chick flick" like you might think. It's a very good movie. If my wife had this, I would go see her everyday also, even if she didn't remember me.

There are many diseases out there, but this to me, is one of the worst. It's one thing to suffer and be in pain, but it's another to forget your entire life you lived. I would rather die from a dihabilitating disease and remember my entire life then die healthy and not remember anything.

Anyway, go see The Notebook. Coming from a Sci-Fi and Action fanatic as myself, I still recommend this movie to anybody that is married and loves who they are with. It will make you appreciate what you have right in front of you and the days you can come home from working a 14 hour day and actually have someone there for you.

Now where them there monster trucks?

 

My girlfriend saw it and would not let me watch it.

Two MOTHER Remembered

I had two Mothers-two Mothers I claim
Two different people,yet with the same name.

Two separate women,diverse by design,
But i loved them both because they were mine.

The first was the Mother who carried me here,
Gave birth and nurtured and launched my career.

She was the one whose features i bear,
Complete with the facial expressions I wear.

She gave me her love,which follows me yet,
Along with the examples in life that she set.

As i got older,she somehow younger grew,
And we'd laugh as just Mothers and sons should do.

But then came the time that her mind clouded so,
And I sensed that the Mother Iknew would soon go.

So quickly she changed and turned into the other,
A stranger who dressed in the clothes of my Mother.

Oh,she looked the same,at least at arm's length,
But now she was the child and i I was her strength.

We'd come full circle.
My Mother the first, the second then me.

And if my own children should come to a day,
When a new Mother comes and the old goes away.

I'd ask of them nothing that I didn't do.
Love both of your Mothers as both have loved you.
