Tonight we went out and ate dinner. All was well till we went to pick up some stuff so we could go to the Titans game tomorrow. We came out and the truck would not start. It would turn over but no start. I called Onstar, they could not tell me anything unless the truck was running. I pulled the key out of the ignition and put it back in several times. I did notice a redlight with a lock flashing on the speedo. No start, it would spin but not start. Finally after about 15 minutes it just started up. I called Onstar back and they said the truck looked fine and showed no problems. The truck only has about 2300 miles on it now. This cannot be happening to the truck, I can't let my wife get stuck somewhere and not be able to get home. Needless to say, it makes both of us uneasy.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to say for sure..But it sounds like the imobilizer in the security system..either your key is faulty or the ignition unit where you stick the key is faulty..Try using the other key for a while and see if it happens again..And if it does it's the Ignition switch...That's My guess from what you tell me here.

 

Don't think it's the key because if it's turning over the key has one it's job by unlocking the ignition. There is no chip in the key like on older gm passlock cars. I use a $3 key blank that I had cut to match my stock key and it has no chip. It does sound like something in the stock security system, which is a PK3 I think.
Do you have an aftermarket radio and or remote starter?

 

did you have a remote start put in recently if its not hooked up correctly it will kick the trucks passlock on, and will kill the starter for up to 15 minutes, also when i had my h3, if I locked the doors with the button inside and then unlock them with the remote and vice versus that would also trip passlock
