Under the passenger dash I noticed this element which was so hot to the touch. I also noticed part of the plastic melting. There was no smell but the AC seems to be acting up.

Anyone know what this thing does?

 

heat/cool fan speed resistor.
# 2 item on the forum. the contact gets hot,melts the plastic on some,,,some say they all do it!! its another thing mine dont do.,,,so far
you can search fan sw, etc and read all about it and the fixes..

 

dont buy the resistor,they never go bad!, just the conn.

My 06 has not done it yet either but I'm not the first owner, think I'm the second d so maybe the original owner had it fixed, but mine only had 33k miles on it when I got it so I don't know, but so far so good (knock on wood!)
