Default My roof top tent

We decided to go to Colorado last week as a last camping and white water rafting vacation before the twins go back to school. This is the first time we used this roof top tent and it was awesome! Set up time was literally 15 seconds. So much better than the 30 to 40 minutes setting up the huge tent on the ground, then airing up the air mattresses! It was perfect, the night air was in the 50’s. We live in Texas and it has been so hot here, this was a real treat. The days never got over 85. We were in heaven. I will post pics of the white water trip and the zip line tour as soon as I get them off the camera.

uhhh bears can climb and lions and tigers can too. Snakes on a Hummer, maybe not.
That looks great. How much does it weigh? What do it say on that label?

It weighs in at about 100 lbs. I made the roof rack myself out of aluminum tubing and copper piping. Works like a champ and a fraction of the cost of a H3 roof rack! On the road, I didn’t really know it was up there unless there was a big gust of wind. It did knock down my mpg a bit but not bad, about 1 mpg I would guess. I was pulling the trailer too though and it weighs in loaded about 150-175 lbs. My overall mpg was 11.8 mpg and that includes the in town running around too, with the trailer and oversized tiers.

It is a Mombasa roof top tent, the label on it is the logo and the web site: http://www.car-top-tent.com/ the one I have is an older model, but works perfectly and slept all 4 of us very well. I will be making my own cover for it, no biggie. I am not afraid of the wife’s sewing machine. I will take more pics of the homemade rack and the cover when I am done.

It slept my wife, me and the twins just fine! It is very roomy, as far as a sleep only tent goes. I suppose if it were raining, we could sit Indian style and play cards or something like that just fine.

Keeps you off the ground from all the creepy crawly critters. I have been camping all my life and this was really nice to be off the ground just for a breeze at the very least. In Texas, the ground stays hot all night and even with air mattresses, the heat from the ground heats the tent if you don’t have a nice breeze. Being 6 feet off the ground made it really nice…..oh yeah, and away from the snakes!

I want to make a trailer to put it on that is bigger than the trailer I have now to keep all my gear in. That would be awesome to have an M101A3, do you HAVE one? What kind of hitch do you have for it?
