so today was quite funny i decided to post this... i had a lady come in with an 03 h2 and was complaining about a rough idle and a clunk/chatter/creaking sound coming from the drivers side... i test drove the vehicle in the parking lot doing what i usually do trying to duplicate the problem and hear the sound... i find that the customer had a non-gm shop look at it and they tightened the bolts on something that she cant recall very well but something to do with steering... while driving i notice that her p/s pump sounded like it was about to die and was able to duplicate the sound she was hearing just by idling turning the steering left and right... it figures i was right about the sound even before i drove it... it was coming from the skid plate... the service information tells us to put a few washers to space the skid plate from the cross member... i raise the vehicle and see if just tightening the bolt would be alright but i found that 9 bolt were stripped... the only three that were ok were the ones toward the front... she didnt want to replace the crossmember just for the skid plate so i re-tapped the holes for a larger bolt... sad part was that i bent my expensive snapon tool in the process... after everything was finished and the problem was solved i drove up and gave the keys to my service writer... the customer kept on thanking me and offered to take me out to lunch because she was so happy that i save her hundreds of dollars... behind my back she asked my service writer for a place i like to eat and of course she tells her... now shes going to get me a gift certificate... i found the lady to be a bit on the "so much energy" side for her age... but what was even funny was she expected someone older than me but she found a 19yr old mechanic =) hahaha... sorry for the long story you just have to meet and talk with the lady... i cant exactly explain her reaction...

 

It's always nice to have the customer walk away thinking you hung the moon...
