There is a search feature here, like every other forum I can think of.

The S/Ns affected is any 2006 H3 lower than 287591 .... the first one started with 100,001, your truck build date will be Nov. 06 or earlier. Not all have the problem, but some could. The head issue affected not only the I5, 4s and 6s were subject to the same issues. Call GM with your vin# and build date (from the sticker in the driver's door jam) and ask.

Just in case you're gonna say, wow they didn't even build that many 3s? The VINs are assigned at the same shreveport plant building Colorados and Canyons. Their VIN sequence unit #s are mixed in and subject to the same TSB re: the head/valve issue.

The recall and extended warranty was for very early 2006s, those with the 3.5L L52 Motors built before March 31, 2006. That is not to say some 3.7L LLRs have never had a valve or head issue. All the Atlas motors built since 4/1/06 have the new hardened valve seats.

Default head/valve issue

My H3 had a check engin light that came on and I changed the plugs and it went away. That was at about 45K miles, now it has come back on and it is the same code (#5 misfire). The problem is that I now have 50981 miles, so I will have to come out of pocket. My question is how much can I expect it to cost?

Thanks,
D

Default '06 H3 head/valve problem ?

Hi All, Have an '06 H3 that I bought 6 months ago (used, 20,000 miles, one owner) and just love it ! Now I read about head/valve problems ! Mine falls in the vin # range (278205) and month (3/06). What do I need to look out for ? What is the problem ? Any warning signs ? Also have a problem with a/c- it runs when in vent mode when recirc. is pushed. Have pushed a/c button at same time, no difference. So I have been using vent/recirc. mode all summer. Taking it to dealer next week to have it looked at. Don't want a/c running in the fall/winter when I use vent/recirc. for fresh air , and to keep out smells ! Should I ask dealer about head/valve issue ? Thanks for any info ! Have learned alot from other threads on this site. Barry

Exclamation 06 h3 faulty heads

My H3 has hit 63k miles and I started having head issues shortly after hitting 50k. hummer wont fix it and the estimates are over 3000$. it is shuddering violently and I've been on the phone with hummer and they said its out of warranty. seeing how its the inline 5 that is having trouble across different makes and models I dont understand. Any Suggestions? btw heads 2,3,5 are all misfiring, obviously a manufacturing issue. my build date was in 07/05 and the vin starts with a 1.

samjure - sounds like now that Hummer is going out of business they are washing their hands of all the loyal Hummer buyers. There is clearly a defect in many of the engine heads. I know that Fords had a defect in their electronic distributor nodules for several years and several models. There was a class action suit started and it was won by Ford owners. I had my Ford fixed for free after 80,000 miles and over 10 years old.
We H3 owners need to connect with an attorney who can start a class action suit.
Any H3 owning attornies out there? Any H3 owners who have family members who are attornies?

Expect what to cost?? You have a #5 misfire code. Doesn't mean you have a bad valve seat head. It can be dirty injectors, or a bad valve spring.

Ask them what? You either have a valve seat issue with the head on your 3, or you don't. The problem does not occur with every vehicle within the vin range before the seats were changed.

Excuse me for asking, were you on the planet when GM, the manufacturer of Hummer H3s, went bankrupt this year?? The limit of your claim is warranty, when it's gone, you have nobody to sue, debts and liabilities are discharged in bankruptcy.

Hummer is not going out of business, it is in the process of finalizing its sale to a new company.
