I thought of that, I used a piece of hard plastic to block the fender opening. Then I thought about itand I realized that the fender is essentially a huge air dam, it lets air in aroundthe head light and there is no open outlet. While not completely air tight it is designed to build some positive pressure. Oh and remember CAI stands for Cold Air Intake. I intalled an engine monitoring deviceand my Intake air temperature is only 2 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature outside on the freeway, even in the summer. I don't have to go through thewhole cold=dense air=more oxygen for combustion, right.Oh, I almost forgot! That skiff of snow you get in Michigan is nothing compared to the 500 inches we get inthe Salt Lake Valleyevery winter.

I was not referring to how much snow we get....we got a wee tad yesterday, but what they do to it when we do get it. Salt theroads and create fenderbergs and clingons from hell.

That 2 degree difference, is what comes in through the inner fender path, that is why all our "closed" inatke systems use it. [&o]

I have a manual, which I prefer. Although there are days when an automatic would be nice.

 

It seems like everyone has a different mpg number
So much has to do with each persons driving style
I have a 07 H3 with 5 speed, adventure pkge and the only thing I have on the vehicle is the factory roof cross bars
and I get 21.5 mpg on the highway at about 62 to 64 mph
AND everyone passes me out here. Hell, I got passed by a bread truck on one trip
I just drove from the SF bay area to Auburn CA on I-80 and got the above mentioned mileage
I'll bet that if there was another H3 next to me, on this trip, his mileage would be different

 

Speed Kills

For mine the best mileage so far has been 20 mpg with the cruise set at about 68 mph. Next long trip I'l try going 65 and see what happens.

It is so hard to go slow though

I too have a Hummer H3 2007 model with the Inline 5 3.7 and I just recently added the VOLANT air intake kit....Im ALSO at a later date adding a VOLANT CatBack Exhaust system and a Predator PCM box upgrade. I also switched OVER to royal purple Oil,gear oil and purple ice in the radiator and ill let ya know what milage I get in a few weeks.

want good mileage on the highway - even in wind? drive behind a semi :-) really works - suddenly the h3 is no brick - no wind resistance since you are actually pulled along as the wind wraps behind you. same idea we use when racing. try it out, you will find a difference within 100 feet and as you get closer you will find the sweet spot where the wind does not bounce you around anymore.
I've done this for years. just dont get too close ;-) it takes a truck longer to stop than you so as long as you keep an eye on his brake lights you are good. I've pulled 60mpg in a stock 4 cylinder old dodge daytona i had multiple times doing this. they even proved how well it works on the tv show myth busters. they gained like 25-30 mpg using a normal car I've taught the technique to my wife who drive our hummer mostly. even she likes it.
