Modded Volant Intake
#13
bottom line as usual,,,
does it do anything at all??
for me it has to show up in mpg because nothing short of a turbo is going to make a worthwhile hp increase, face it whats 2-5 hp like kn claims for $400.
but if i can get 2-3 mpg for less than 50 bucks,,im in.
so when doc says the pipe mod did more than the rest of the volant i got interested. (but what does it do?)
so tomorrow i go to the hdwe store and blow $20 and see what i can do!! yeah, me the skeptic,,report back later!
tom
edit: oooops as i study the airdoc and volant i notice that they all got rid of that silly looking restrictive flex accordian thingy,,,that allowed for engine vibration and replaced it all with a smooth, RIGID, hard piece of pipe, clamped solidly.
so now the plastic intake manifold is directly linked to the plastic air box mounted solidly to the frame,,hmmm. so i assume we have rubber motor mounts to let the baby shake, and,,and,,any long term reports of broken plastic,,b4 i start messin,,with sumpin that aint broke, yet!
anyone with 5000 miles with an airdoc system??
i wondered why gm would put that silly flex thingy in there, what do engineers know anyway!
last edit,,today, docs last advice:
" Get rid of the stock accordian coupler at the TB and use a 3.5" silicone coupler."
the last piece of flex in the system!!

with my volant cai that eliminates the resonator i didnt see much of a mpg increase if any, but the increased power was very noticeable...alot quicker off the line and it just motors up inclines. at least on the 06 it is. i know the 3.7 liter on 07's and later already have plenty of pep, but a CAI is still worth picking up even if your gas mileage remains the same.
by the way though, its possible my mpg's did increase but since my truck has more power now so i drive faster which could explain me breaking even.

couldnt drive fast without it?
"since my truck has more power now so i drive faster"
come now
i had a vw bus that u could floor for an hour and not break the speed limit,, but thats the only car i ever heard of that would not go fast!!
im bettin u could go just as fast b4

hahaha... it definitely is quicker...and all the other stuff i did to maintain my truck makes it ride alot smoother...so its easier to maintain 70-75mph. before it seemed like work to cruise at that speed. the 2006 is a dog! but i dont care, i didnt by it to go fast in...i got my motorcycle for that.
bottom line though is dont expect much of a mpg increase.
