I have learned a lot in your forum and thank you for the vast information but I have a question: Does anyone have a 1995 gas engine? That is the H1 I am considering to buy, my thought on that is the fact I can work on a gas engine and do not feel intimidated by a diesel engine but I am unsure if it will be a good idea, I have been considering to buy an h1 since 1996 but always being reluctant by the coments of the dealers and H1 mechanics (only 1 in Kansas City) who mentioned that the yearly maintenance will be 15K a year. I saw reviews for every diesl engine but I can't seem to find about the Gas, also I am planing to travel to South America so I thought gas will be easy to work on it in that part of the world, any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you buy a truck with lots of deferred maintenance you can spend some money getting a truck back right. 15K a year is ridiculous. 2-3,000/year under normal use. The gas motors don't get as good mileage as the diesels, have a different power curve so you lose a lot of the low end torque, are a little quieter than the diesels and generally are cheaper since they aren't as sought after. No idea about repair issues but diesels are even more prevalent in other parts of the world than they are here.
