Maf
After spending a couple of months putting up with the occasional
engine dying and bad iddling, decided to change the MAF, as nothing was showing on scanners [ MAF faults hardly show on scanners]..Good decision it was, with a perfect iddle now and
no engine dying....but for how long ?
Also, dealt with the strange braking habits..brakes used to bite and let go after warming up...this was cured by emptying the brake fluid completely, pipes also, and changing to DOT5....DOT3 when warm acts up...now brakes are fine and the H3 is almost civilised to drive in town

AHHH Haaaa, I reworked my 3, bought it with 54k a few months back. It idled hard when I got it afigured it needed a tune up. I changed every fluid and spark plugs, cleaned TB and MAF and have put 3 bottles of techron through it. Still idles hard, and though my head was going bad, but found out that was done already. You have found the secret! Not to mention I cleaned the MAF with Brake Cleaner so its probably ruined!!!! Great post!
By the way I like the DOT 5 idea, i flushed mine with DOT4, just wondering how you bleed the back brakes??? I was not able to get fluid to come out unless the key was on.

Glad to be of help...I've found out most faults in other cars also, are 70%
MAF related, specially things to do with iddling, loss of power and revs,
MAF faults almost never show on scanners, but everything else does..
H3 is really almost enjoyable to drive now..as far as hummers go...
As for the brakes, DOT5 really made a big difference...brakes do not need bleeding..mechanic emptied the pipes from all 4 corners and the bottle and refilled..let the system work and topped up...of course having leaf springs in the back, does not help braking a lot, as the car feels like jumping...
All in all, an H3 can be civilised once you master all it's faults and remedies

Dafihummer, I find that amazing that he didnt bleed the brakes!! I bleed mine and started having a weird spring sound when smashing the fat pedal! Its gone now, so I starting to believe this "electric brake system" is "self healing" lmao
Off to look for cheap MAF sensors, where did you purchase yours from if you dont mind?
