Default Looking for tire advice

Getting ready to pull the trigger on replacement tires for my box stock 06 H3 with Adventure package. The stock Bridgestone LT 285/75 R16 were fine, just a little loose in the rain. The noise never bothered me. I got 69k miles out of them.

I drive 50% highway, 40% backroads and 10% mud. I also live in the upper Northeast so snow traction is important. I'd like to put the biggest tire on that I can (I like the look) without adding a lift package.

From the threads I gather that 315/75R16 is the biggest tire that will fit without rubbing.

I'm torn between the GY Wrangler Duratracs and the BFG T/A KOs. As this is no minor purchase and I'll have them for years I'd appreciate input from you guys who know a lot more about this stuff than I do.

Well I have the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on My H3 and also on my Sport Trac. They are awesome tires.. They have real good bite, are awesome in the dirt, sand, and snow, and they are fairly quite on the freeway.. I have close to 40,000 on the ones on the Trac and they still have over 70%of their tread left.. That is why I bought the same ones for the H3...

I have BFG AT's and I am not overly pleased with the performance in the winter. The tread blocks get packed with snow and don't clear themselves well. Otherwise they are a good tire and I am getting a lot of miles out of them.

If you do a search I think you will find that everyone that has Duratracs are happy with them. Coopers as well.

I have the DuraTracs 285/75 on my Adventure and have had BFG KO's on other trucks. For you I believe the DuraTracs would be a better choice than the BFG's - much better in mud & I hear much better in snow & ice although Atlanta has few opportunities for personal experience. One word of caution, my gas mileage dropped immediately by just over 1 MPG when I replaced the OEM tires with the DuraTracs. If you go to a larger tire I suspect your MPG impact will be worse. Just so you are aware.

I also have Duratracs. I live in CT. They are a very good all around tire.
35" tires (315/75/16) will hit your MPG, but if you don't care, they are the best looking size.
33" tires (305/70/16 or 285/75/16) will have less of a MPG impact.

DuraTracs if you want the best combination of winter snow and off-road performance in one tire.

Michelin LTX all-season if you want the best combination of winter and highway performance in one tire.

I'd also stick with 285's too unless you intend to also beef up your shocks to handle heavier 305 tires.

Between the 2 tires you posted (there are a lot more great choices out there), I would have to go with the Goodyears hands down. I'm not sure if they make a 305/70R16, but they do look better IMHO on an H3. You don't have to "upgrade" your shocks to run 305s or even 315s. The OEM Adventure/OffRoad tuned shocks do very well with either size.
